European press voices anxiety, dread over 'mother of all elections' in US
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/20041102/pl_afp/us_vote_press_europe&cid=1521&ncid=2043

<snip>

PARIS (AFP) - Europe's newspapers voiced anxiety and dread as they mulled the future of America, Europe and the world according to who wins the cliffhanger US presidential vote, dubbed the "mother of all elections."

"The world holds its breath," says Italy's La Repubblica, as American voters were set to head to the polls to choose between incumbent George W. Bush and his Democratic challenger John Kerry (news - web sites).

Austria's popular Krone daily warned "the mother of all elections" was set to throw "our world either into a calmer future or into new military adventures."

"Good luck, America," says Berlin's left-wing Tageszeitung above an image of a slot machine. "American voters today decide their future and that of the entire world."

3. Those who realize the Republican party is corrupted voted the right
way, for Kerry, and of course we liberals voted for Kerry, but the mass of ignorant incurious brainwashed fundamentalists voted for GW.
If they want a theocratic government, we ought to give them Texas ands let them go at it.

4. Those Crazy Europeans....LOL!

5. I love them

Europeans have seen what war does for you. It was fought in their cities, in their towns...their schools, churches and museums got blown up.

They have seen the light. I hope we don't need to have more of our schools, churches, and museums blown up before we realize the evils of war.

7. I just returned from Paris on Sunday. Europe is as tense as we are...
Edited on Tue Nov-02-04 11:31 AM by KzooDem
I had many conversations about the election with my French friends and business colleagues, as well as some complete strangers on the subway, in the cafes, etc...

The view in Europe is that the election was stolen by Bush in 2000 and that the man is simply neither fit nor worthy to govern the most powerful country in the world. Of course, we here know that as well.

Europeans are indeed holding their breaths, as is the rest of the world, over the outcome of this election. The impression I came away with is that they see us as having a very clear choice. America has the chance to depose a moron who should have never risen to the office of President of the United States.

I also came away with the distinct feeling that should Bush win this election, the American people will probably be less likely to get by on the good graces of goodwill and international understanding.

Europeans very clearly distinguish Americans from their government. If America allows Bush to remain in office, I suspect Americans may recieve more chilly receptions overseas.

I pray that today Americans will change history...that respect for our government is restored and that respect and understanding of Americans is strengthened.

8. The Entire World
is worried folks....here in Canada, we LOVE Kerry and simply cannot comprehend why anyone in their right mind would feel bush is fit for the job.

I believe the reports of ignorance on issues, for bush supporters.

We have a lovely bottle ready to go, to toast President Kerry!

11. you are right,
a woman wrote a letter to the editor for our local paper stating that we should believe everything that Bush says - and not believe any news media. The brain washing is complete!

Go Kerry, Go Kerry, Go Kerry........

:-)

10. Wishful thinking?
This morning's "Western Morning News" reports - ".......the race in the battleground states could still be swung by undecided voters. Based on previous elections, Gallup estimates that nine out of nine undecided voters will back Senator Kerry".
I guess that, sadly, that first "nine" should be a "five" - but even so, I bet that's a mistake that wouldn't have got through if Bush were favoured.
I've still to meet anyone here (England) who can understand why anyone would vote for Dubya.
