Schwarzenegger Star Power Fades for GOP in State Races
SACRAMENTO — Republican hopes that Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's popularity would help the party win more seats in the Legislature have faded in the final days before Tuesday's election as Democrats enjoyed a boost from the presidential campaign.

Just weeks ago, Republican officials spoke optimistically about the potential impact of hearty campaigns by Schwarzenegger in behalf of Assembly and Senate candidates. Now, however, even some sources close to the governor concede that the outlook has darkened for Republican candidates and that Democrats could gain a seat.

The Democrats already hold sizable majorities in the legislative chambers: 48 to 32 in the Assembly and 25 to 14 in the Senate, which has one vacancy after Republican William J. "Pete" Knight's death in May.

Poll results for GOP candidates began dropping after the last presidential debate, said Assembly Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy of Bakersfield. It's an indication that President Bush's unpopularity with California voters might be weighing down his party's chances further down the ballot.

7. Picture Anold sucking on a big fat cigar with puffed out chest
does not a pretty picture make.

This ego-maniac attacks on the American Indians along with his wanting to change the Constitution to allow him to make a run for President. Many foreign born Americans would make an excellent POTUS but Arnold is not one of them.

I also wonder if any one of Arnold HUMVEE's....I heard he has 8 in various colors......are equipped with armor. He is the Governor of CA and am sure his vehicles are armor plated, unlike much of our troops in Iraq????

17. He was shown gassing one of his HUM-Vs on line
last week (ABC or CNN)'s website along with The Boss on the right side in an article that mentioned how the candidates were using star power. Ahnold makes me sick and whenever that Constitutional change is brought up I just get a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. Never, please never!!

6. Arnie just recently is facing a civil suit in Britain for groping.
His past will always haunt him.

Lot's of people go to jail for "bad behavior", he was made a governor. He'll get his in the form of a destroyed reputation.

You can't grope women and expect to get away scott free.

10. Bush made POTUS with his history of bad behavior!
Apparently the Cons are only concerned with the Dems behavior be it good or bad. The Cons have a way of turning a decorated hero into a traitor and an AWOL/Deserter into a Air Force flight pilot.

13. GOP consultant: "I'm hoping for a snowstorm."
That attitude sums up GOP 2004--work so that no one shows up. So much for the "terminator." Sorry, people voted for a social liberal "moderate" Kennedy-connected independent-seeming Schwarzenegger, not a typical far right California Republican. It doesn't transfer.

14. Save California! Deport Arnold.
OK... So maybe that's a bit strong. But is anyone else bothered by his constant quoting of his old movies? I wish someone would explain that he is not the Senior Class President of Venice High. It is this unprofessionalism that does it for me, but I think I am in the minority.

Most people I talk to are fairly supportive of Arnold. He is like the boyfriend California took to piss off our parents. Seems to me we sort of like watching the rest of the nation wince when they call him Governor.

18. Most Republicans have a twelve year old's mentality
They pretty much suffer from arrested developement. They like the action heroes that twelve year old boys love and instead of intelligent speach they come up with action movie sound-bites eg."Make My Day" or "Read My Lips" etc. etc. They are just children who have their fingers on the button. Scary ain't it?

26. That will be sweet!
They REALLY believed, deep down, that Arnold would be some kind of magic-maker, and deliver California to the republi-CONS. That was the main reason behind the recall of Gray Davis. It was all about positioning. Looks like their plans have gone up in cigar smoke.

I agree, he does. W fills out a suit nicely too.

That doesn't make him any better a Governor than the suit makes Bush a President . . .

35. Yeccccch! Beg to differ!!!
W looks HORRIBLE in a suit...he obviously can never get them to fit, even when he gets a renown tailor like Georges de Paris to make them for him. Now Clinton, there's a fat boy who could wear a suit and look FINE. The weecowboy has bowed legs, can't manage to put his arms to his sides, and has an odd HUMP, square in shape, on his back!!!

As for Ah-nuld, he may have looked good in his youth, but since he had his heart valve replaced due to steroid abuse, he's had to give up the 'supplements.' As a consequence, his huge neck is getting chicken-ish, his legs are getting skinnier every day, he is losing his ass, and I wouldn't be surprised if half of his figure is the result of judicious padding....
