151. Awesome idea - we have seen what we can do if we want to
I don't know why we let Faux exist actually, we could likely take them out if we wanted to - if they had NO Democratic audience, they would in turn have no credibility (well, you know what I mean). It's the average couch potato who needs just a little propting and information to make them take action against Faux. We really should take them down...

Throw them off the plane - deny them all access to the campaign.

I know it's not possible but this is completely over-the-line.

68. Agree , Good Bye !
I would not blame them for throwing FOX off the plane. If anything just having them around is like having a spy amoung you. As hard as all of Kerry's team is working to ensure a Kerry win ,its only human that their frustrations at FOX's obvious right wing spin on everything they report would be hard to ignore. It turn ,of course you are going to take out these frustrations on one of their "reporters" hanging out ,trying to get some kind of dirt to report. I say put a parachute of this reporter, and drop them off over Iraq , so they can see what their guys war has done to that country !

I'm glad the campaign person had the blow-up. What Fox said was outrageous and it deserved an equal response.

Now, that said and done, keep the Fox person on the crew, but let them know that irresponsible reporting is not appreciated.

5. If you use brackets in a DU post, it makes that portion within the
brackets disappear . . .

The first line of quotes should read:

KERRY CAMP OBJECTS TO 4:00pm FOX NEWS SEGMENT: ALAN COLMES: "It's not like he (Osama bin Laden) had a Kerry-Edward bumper sticker in his cave." NEIL CAVUTO: "But he's all but doing that, isn't he? I thought I saw a button." (etc.)

71. You can use square brackets. I do all the time.
See Sizzling HTML Jalfreezi's list of character codes.

Keep in mind that if you preview, you'll have to use the back button to make any changes because the codes will get converted to characters in your post's text and then disappear in the final post. If you're careful about that, you can use square brackets wherever they're appropriate.

I grant that's one of the reasons I prefer real HTML to all the variants of that use square brackets. Brackets have many more uses in writing than angle brackets do; in fact when editing on screen, copyeditors use angle brackets for comments because the typesetting software screens them out.

But that's always been how I've felt about DU. Love the place, love the people . . . hate the software. ^_^

Guys,

I know Helen is on our side, but could we please insert someone that is at least pleasant to look at. Maybe we can get Jeanne Garafalo (hope I spelled her name right) into the press corp.

We have so many good looking women, and the swine on the right only listen to those that look good. By substituting a sexy woman the cavemen will listen and some will leave their brainwashed world behind.

27. Venom? It's only logical to exclude "opinion" media and keep real news
Faux has proven themselves to be nothing but "opinion Repuke bullshit," and I don't think it would be a stretch for the Kerry campaign to require that press admission to their events be limited to real news outlets. Faux will whine and cry about their exclusion and will probably only redouble their efforts to slant the election towards Shrub, but in the end if people are watching Faux as their news source...they're lost to us anyway.

Kerry campaign. Why waste your time trying to capture the dumbass lemming Repuke Faux viewers?? F'em.

Seriously, this shouldn't be a surprise with FOX.

The campaign should just say nothing. It will just give them ammo for hit articles.

All we need to do is ride the current good numbers to election day. No need to rock the boat and risk screwing it up over some petty FOX conflict.

>>From an anonymous current Fox News employee:

So I just watched your DVD, which I bought about 2 wks ago on the internet, and well.... two words: "Thank You"

It was nice to see that there were others out there that were feeling the same things I had been feeling since the war began. I graduated from journalism school four years ago and feel like I have a pretty good grasp of what "journalism" is. Fox is not journalism. Fox is what Bernie Sanders says it is. You look at Fox, you look at Bush, you look at Ken Lay...they're all saying the same things, sometimes line for line. Anyway, I hope your movie penetrates and leads to some changes. This isn't, or at least shouldn't be, about politics. It should be about journalism.

From an anonymous former foxnews.com employee:

After spending nearly two years working at FNC, what I saw in "Outfoxed" was pretty much dead-on accurate. The documentary never loses track on the focus -- how Fox butchers, manipulates and blatantly corrupts journalism, no matter what angle or spin they take. An opposing, leftist agenda could have easily run its course throughout the film, but the scope always remains on Fox’s impact on journalism and news reporting.

As for memos I saw at Fox, there are too many to recall. One stating we were not to call fighters in Iraq "insurgents," that we would call them “terrorists” because they are not a uniformed army (even though they were fighting one). Any Associated Press article challenging or questioning a Bush administration issue was labeled as "unfair and unbalanced," and got dubbed "unfoxxy"... or in other words, not aligned with the Fox agenda. When Rush Limbaugh ran into trouble with ESPN and drugs, we were told to never label him as a conservative or right-wing radio host. However, Al Franken or Michael Moore never get shown without being called a “liberal nut” or “left-wing activist.”

Often, it’s not what they say that makes them Fox… it’s what they choose to leave out.<<

33. If they toss Candy Cowley out of a plane
I hope they don't do it from more than a few hundred feet otherwise the ensuing impact might be enough to rattle the tectonic plates all the way to Mt. St. Helene's. Could be dangerous.

Sort of... It doesn't matter. If you are still relying on any domestic broadcast or cable network for your news (cough) disinformation, then you are stuck in a perpetual 1984.

You can't trust any of their shit. You might as well watch reruns of The Brady Bunch. At least that shit doesn't kill you.

enough to give someone a second chance (even tho the person on the plane didn't actually do what pissed them off). But it should also be a warning that this is most definately your LAST CHANCE and you might want to pack a small parachute under your parka.

46. Actually they do...
There was a lawsuit where a couple of reporters were fired for refusing to change a story to be more corporate friendly.

They claimed they were being ordered to lie, and that they couldn't be fired for refusing to do so.

The judge ruled Fox was indeed ordering them to lie but that Fox (and all other broadcast media by extension) did not have any requirement to report the truth, and as such their dismissal was legitimate.

So, Fox does indeed have a license to lie.

There should be a bipartisan board to review political ads for blatent lies before they can be put on the air. All the MSM talks anout the negative ads on both sides, but never point out the difference between Bush commercials which are mainly lies, half-truths, twisted positions, and completely made up 'quotes', and Kerry ads which are only negative because they tell the truth about all the negative, assinine, and potentially illegal things that Bush has ACTUALLY done or said!

Now that meteoric BFEE turd Wolf Blitzer would should straight through the crust, mantle and the sun at the center of the earth and out the other side because he is like a neutrino -- he doesn't have much weight.

BTW: Driving from Chicago to LA, I spent my last bits of cash to stop at what was then the Barringer Meteor Crater. That's big. And to think at one time everybody who was "right" thought it was created by a volcano. One guy -- Barringer -- thought it resulted from impact from outer space.

Thanks for the big laughs and good memories, goodboy!

Niceness to them is a weakness so show none, be unwavering and steadfast, steer the course and don't back down, say what you mean and mean what you say. This stuff we have heard for the past 3 years from them and now it is coming back to bite them in the arse so I say bring it on.

Remember the Christian(Christian faith) way is to "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" so let's get about the doing to them as they have done.

It is hard to tell if it is weakness, utter imbecility, or profound incompetence, but he is beyond a liability. He could do no worse for the Left if he tried. Utterly, utterly disgusting.

If FOX said that on national air waves, they are liable for slander charges. Somebody needs to pursue the legal end of this statement. They could receive fines and other legal penalties.

123. Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer
My strategy for taking them down:

Watch the Faux rep(s) like a hawk and limit access severely until after the election. Ensure they are in the bathroom when any good scoop is given out.

Immediately after the Kerry victory, feed the guy some blatantly false information that can be swiftly disproved, making him look like the angry, bitter, flailing tool he is.

As soon as the Kerry Press Secretary is announced, revert to the old style of seating in the Press Room, based on seniority. This puts Faux in the back row. Alphabetize the newcomers, so AL JAZEERA gets a better seat than Faux.

Appoint Helen Thomas as Honorary Press Secretary Emeritus. Put a nameplate on her chair, have Kerry unveil it. Have Kerry issue an executive order saying that she ALWAYS gets the first question.

Bring back the fairness doctrine, but wait until just after the 2008 election to implement it--fuck 'em, we'll have the wind of incumbency at our backs, may as well use it.

I'd give the press a better pressroom. That dump over the old swimming pool sucks. In fact, I'd restore the swimming pool if I were the Prez! Nixon was an idiot for getting rid of it.

I'd just slightly adjust the directive about waiting until after 2008. The Fairness Doctrine and Equal Time provisions need to be reinstituted - NOW.

But I LOVE the Helen Thomas ideas. She is MORE than deserving.

I'm not going to gloat, either (at least I don't THINK I'm gonna...) but I DO intend to call every republi-CON's congressional or senate office on Wednesday morning, or whenever, and put them on notice that, just as we were watching the voting, and fighting back against bush on the stump, we will be watching NOW - and they better not pull any shit. Because the mandate is NOT going to be theirs. By ANY stretch of the imagination. AND IT NEVER WAS, even though they behaved as though they had one.

We'll be under NEW MANAGEMENT, and I'm going to make sure they know it. THEIR noses I will be rubbing it in, probably for the rest of this year, and all the way past the inauguration. I plan to show the republi-CON pros the same kindness and congeniality as they've shown MY people. Which is NONE AT ALL.

At that point, you DEFINITELY will be a WAY better person than I am!!!

128. I think, once Kerry is in office he should...
1. Get Powell's stupid kid out of the FCC's chair position.

2. Appoint someone with a back bone.

3. Get said person to crack down on yellow journalism.

4. Re-instate, the equal time policy.

5. Stop independant news organizations from being gobbled up by large corporations.

6. Bust up current Media Monopolies.

7. Provide grants and initiatives for start up news organizations.

8. Create a special fact-checker division of the F.C.C. and inflict stiff fines to News organizations that mislead people.

9. Enforce the code of jounalistic ethics as a law.

10. Redraw the now, very blured line between News, and Commentary, between fact and opinion, News of Substance, and Fluff.

11. If your going to have a T.V. Show, and it will be called a "News" show, it should actually contain... well.. News. Not someones opinion of the news, but real news. (exemptions for dramas, sitcoms, and the Daily Show)

12. Require by law that any Newspaper forced to print a retraction, do so on the front page. (the penalties is two fold, because it essentially forced to advertise that it made a mistake, and the newspaper must sacrifice prime page real estate because of their screw-up = more motivation to get their facts straight before they go to print.

13. Same as 12, but applied to T.V. News, if force into retraction, said retraction must be aired at the beggining of the show.

143. Neil Cavuto is an asswipe
And I LOVE the idea of going after FOX one advertiser at a time. After the election is over and Kerry wins, it will be time to take on a new project.Nothing would bring me greater joy than to watch O'Reilly, Hannity, Cavuto and the rest sweat it out. This would have a two fold effect as we could then watch the media whores at CNN, wonder when their time will be up. I've often wondered why Wolf Blister sic, doesn't just wear a Bush/Cheney campaign button and be done with it.That wildebeest, Candy Crowley, should just start every news report from the Kerry Campaign trail by saying, " I hope he loses, but today John Kerry made a stop in Ohio."
What happened to the Walter Cronkite's and the David Brinkley's of this world? Why are we forced to listen to the likes of a Sean Hannity, who should have been a used car dealer or Candy Crowley,CEO of Big Gals Dating Service ? I know I should be deeply ashamed of myself for what I just wrote, but hey, thank God I'm not, huh?

147. Why would Osama support Kerry
when bush* has given Osama EVERYTHING he could wish for?

"The following are FACTS, not assessments!"

1) US out of Saudi

2) United the Muslim world against the USA

3) US troops tied down and $BILLIONS wasted in a useless war in Iraq. Killing Iraqis doesn't hurt Osama.

4) Deposed the only secular leader in the Middle East. Saddam was one of Osama's enemies.

5) bush* diverted focus, funds, and personel from the goal of fighting terrorism.

6) bush* (Patriot Act) has begun the implementation of Police State in the once free USA.

7) bush* policies have been the best recruiting tool Osama could ask for, swelling the Al Qaeda ranks exponentially, and vaulted Osama to the position of Leader of Forces against the Great Evil. AlQaeda is now many times richer and more powerful than before the idiot in chief predictible reaction!
bush* has given Osama credibility and legitimacy.Osama is now a True Prophet of the Muslim World,; before bush*, he was just a radical terrorist.

The Kerry campaign should directly rebut FAUX with the above list! bush* is the best thing that ever happened to Osama.

John Kerry and Co. should definitely thrash it out with these filthy bastards. But not right now. They do not have the time to declare war on Fox News in these critical last days; it will only distract them and is likely to merely hurt them in public perception.

I'm sorry to say it, since I hate them as much as anybody, but that assault will have to be put on hold. They're gonna need to stay focused on the primary enemy, and play nice to every single lurid media outlet till next week. We will be in a much stronger position to deal with these social parasites very soon, just hang in there!

3. What is it?
4. A scam game delivered to the lowest possible denominator (audience) with the lowest education, sophistication, and IQ,
5. To fill the coffers from advertising, period.

Profit w/ no morality that skims the edges of law.

Ruport Murdoch (and his kid) and Company including Roger Ailes and Bush family members, e.g., John Ellis, are scum who laugh all the way to the bank having no morals, character nor veracity. All of them are scum. Ever since Murdoch came from Australia via U.K. to America, network television has taken a nose dive.

No one questions who Cheney or Bush don't allow on their campaign planes. Personally I don't give a damn about "moral superiority" and going out of our way to be fair. Liberals and right-wingers represent different constituencies and we need to be willing to fight for ours even if it means being as "unfair" to right-wingers as they are to us.

Oh yeah... I hope John Kerry gives Helen Thomas the first question during news conferences again.
