Rep. Katherine Harris (R-Fla.) might think about sitting too close to the C-SPAN cameras the next time she's in Congress.
Harris, who was Florida's secretary of state during the infamous 2000 "hanging chad" recount debacle, is seen whispering, giggling, touching and appearing to peck the cheek of Republican Rep. Rick Renzi of Arizona during the 9/11 Commission reforms bill debate. At one point, she throws her head back in laughter as Rep. Rob Simmons (R-Conn.) presents intelligence data at the podium.

While a Renzi staffer admitted Harris appears to give him a "shoulder grab," Renzi's press secretary, Matthew Ash, told us: "They shared an exchange on the House floor and nothing more. The congressman is looking directly at Simmons and following the debate on the floor."

Harris press secretary David Host called the posting of the Oct. 8 C-SPAN footage "Democratic dirty tricks."........

If they play kissy face inappropriately in public, in front of cameras they know are filming, and this gets on air, how can it be a democratic dirty trick? In all actuality, democrats do not need to trick the republicans into doing something that they would rather not be seen televised, or secretetly filmed, cuz the repubs seem to manage very well doing and saying stupid things without any prodding. She has pulled the whole Carl Rove slander book out in attacking Jan Schneider the Democrat. I'd love to see the Democratic Party put this clip in a TV ad. I'd include comment with it something like.

"During the serious debate on the issues surrounding 9/11. Katherine Harris flirts with a fellow Republican. If you want someone to seriously address the issues, vote for Jan Shnieder."

31. Remember When She Announced the Terrorism Threat in IND?

Do you remember a few months ago during a fundraising speech when Harris revealed a major terrorism threat to blow up the power grid of Carmel, Indiana? It turns out it was completely in her imagination.

Here's excerpts of the AP article from that incident:

"Republican Rep. Katherine Harris said Wednesday she regrets making the claim that a plot existed to blow up the power grid in Carmel, Ind., a notion city officials disputed...

... at a rally for President Bush in Venice, Fla...she told the audience that while in the Midwest recently, the mayor of Carmel told her how a man of Middle Eastern heritage had been arrested and hundreds of pounds of explosives were found in his home. "He had plans to blow up the area's entire power grid," she said, according to the newspaper.

City officials in Carmel said they know of no such plot. "We're aware of the comments we read in the paper," said Tim Green, assistant chief of police in Carmel, a town about 10 miles north of Indianapolis. "We're not aware of any plans to blow up Carmel's power grid."

Nancy Heck, a spokeswoman for Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard, said, "The mayor never talked to Katherine Harris. They never had that conversation."

Questioned Wednesday, Harris' office issued a statement in which the congresswoman said, "I regret that I had no knowledge of the sensitive nature of this situation."
