LAT: Women May Call Election
THE RACE FOR THE WHITE HOUSE
Women May Call Election
The gender gap may be reemerging, with more female voters leaning toward Kerry, polls show. Bush has the advantage with men.

By Mark Z. Barabak, Times Staff Writer

....The gender gap may be reemerging...perpetuating the Mars-Venus political divide between men, who lean Republican, and women, who lean Democratic, that has been a fixture of presidential politics since Ronald Reagan beat Jimmy Carter a generation ago. But the size of the gap remains in question — and the answer may determine who wins on Nov. 2.

Democrat Al Gore carried the women's vote by 11 percentage points in 2000. This year, however, polls for a time showed Bush running even with or better than Kerry among women, as terrorism and domestic security crowded out healthcare, the economy and other bread-and-butter concerns.

But after his strong debate performances, some recent surveys — though not all — have shown Kerry regaining the traditional Democratic edge among women. Bush continues to lead among male voters, according to all polls, though his support has dropped from four years ago among those with a college education....

***

....barring a sudden turnabout among men, Kerry will probably have to win a sizable majority of the women's vote to capture the White House...."Anything short of about what Gore did is going to be very, very dangerous for Kerry," said Carroll Doherty, editor of the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press, "Right now, he's right at that measure."...

1. I wish I got paid to be a genius
like these analysts...

"If Kerry gets fewer votes from (Fill in the blank here) than Gore did, he may have fewer votes overall and he might lose the election."

Genius, I tell you! It rivals Tweety's pronouncement one Suday that either the election will be close...or it won't be.

Do you ever hear them say, "If (Former Governor) Bush gets fewer votes from Conservative Republicans who feel betrayed by his policies of deficit spending and pre-emptive war and those in the middle who inexplicably felt there was no difference between him and Gore, he might lose the election?"

Not on a bet.

2. Curious ...Latest AP poll says Kerry leads women's vote by 15 points
"Some 56 percent of likely voters believe the nation is on the wrong track, another warning sign. By an 18-point margin, voters believe Kerry would be best at creating jobs. They are evenly split on who would do the best job on Iraq. Women favor Kerry over Bush by 15 percentage points. "

3. Lies Angeles Times whores for Bush again!
Remember, they're owned by the Chicago Fibune, so they'll be just as biased.

BTW--did the Fibune endorse their pal Alan KKKeyes, yet???????

5. In defense of the LAT --
they do show independence from the Trib Company. They hired Michael Kinsley, for example, not so long ago, as editorial page editor, and I assume he may have authored the great recent editorial, "Is Bush a Dope?" -- finally getting those words in newsprint!

It's far from perfect, however, like all our "mainstream media" --

12. The LAT is being brought into line, I promise
Edited on Sat Oct-23-04 10:56 AM by w4rma
Heck, their reporting has alreay changed for the worse. I used to read the LAT alot and now less and less as they have found less and less important stories to write about.

15. I refuse to defend such a lying institution as the Lies Angeles Times
My eyes were opened when the Lies Angeles Times joined with the SCREW YORK TIMES and WHORESHINGTON POST to whitewash and destroy Gary Webb.

You remember Gary Webb, the man who exposed Contra Cocaine? well when the Lies Angeles Times finished with him, he was destroyed.

The paper that pushed "INDUSTRIAL FREEDOM" on its masthead lost whatever integrity it had when Otis Chandler departed. Now, it's just the same sack of shit as the Screw York Times, Chicago Fibune, Atlanta KKKonstitution and Whoreshington Post.

4. Will women secretly vote for Kerry
Sometimes I think there are women who want to vote for Kerry, but don't want to tell their husbands or families for fear of being ridiculed. But, they'll vote for him anyway once they're in the voting booth. No one will be the wiser. At least I hope that's the case.

6. Sadly, I had had that same thought -- that some women...
might be afraid to tell their husbands, or pollsters, who they were voting for. I know that was sometimes true in the past.

10. If women are so afraid of telling their husbands, maybe they should....
rethink why they are even married to these guys. I'm sure their husbands aren't afraid of letting them know they are going for Bush. :(

Some women need to wake up and get backbones. ;)

14. Heck... maybe EVERYBODY should be afraid to tell some people who they'll
vote for.

A friend of mine was fired from a big multinational's Brazilian branch shortly after he declared he'd vote for the PT (Lula's party).

7. My friend's mother, who was never into politics before this
election, and is now becoming an activist for the Kerry campaign, said that she was going to take her husbands car keys on the day of the election so he couldn't go anywhere! (They live in New Hampshire)

She talked him out of voting for Bush, but he won't vote for Kerry so he's voting Nader. She said she'd hog-tie him if she had to, to keep him from going to the polls! It sounds bad, but it's actually kind of funny if you know them!

8. yes, I have walked precincts where the husband's speak
for their Democratic registered wives and say.."she's voting for *"...and yet I think that perhaps that may not be the case...perhaps she is just letting him think that so he will leave her alone...

9. They way they tell it...
I've now seen stories that it's going to be the fundies, women, gays, blacks, and Catholics who are going to be the swing in this election. I'm getting sick of it. There is no one "key" to this election. John Kerry is not going to do anything that causes ONLY the Catholics to turn on him and no one else.

This is akin to when people have a vote and someone wins 11-10, and everyone who voted for the winner things, "Wow, MY vote was the swing vote!" True, but it was no more of a swing vote than anyone else's vote.
