3. Fleshing this out a little
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, Oct. 13 - Seventeen months into a shadowy terror campaign that has killed more than 100 people, numerous Saudis express less anger at the insurgents than at the United States for its invasion of Iraq, the signal event that they say touched off the attacks inside the kingdom.

In interviews over the last week, the Saudis condemned the terror attacks, aimed primarily at foreigners, but called them a small inconvenience that has not forced them to make significant changes in their daily lives. By contrast, they expressed unremitting disdain for the United States.

Many Saudis appear to have reached a form of intellectual accommodation with those carrying out the violence. When asked about the attackers' goals, they assigned varied motives but often one that is consistent with their personal, social or political concerns.

4. I am having difficulty feeling sorry for the Saudi royal family.
If we can EVER cut our dependance from foreigh oil...then the dynamics will change considerably. They are not our friends, All the same this war has done much to destabilize the Middle East.

Seems to me Saudi Arabia is a Wahabbi coup waiting to happen anyway.

6. The Saudis doth protest too much, methinks. . .
considering 15 of the 19 hijackers on 9/11 were Saudi. Not to mention that their "royal family" and the bin laden family are pally with Bush and his cronies.

9. Never thought I would agree with the Saudis
I do now. The number of terrorists must have increased. If you drop bombs and kill innocents, you radicalize their family and friends. Even if they don't join the 'insurgents,' they will hate you.

12. Bush senior started it all
In the run-up to the first Gulf war, Bush senior pressured the Saudis to allow a "temporary" airstrip in their country ... to help protect against the "treat" of Saddam. Bin Laden's avowed reason for the 9/11 attack was precisely because of their being US troops in Saudi Arabia. The rest is history.
