AUSTIN - Three defendants in the Texans for a Republican Majority campaign-finance case made their first appearance in court Monday to designate lawyers.
State District Judge Bob Perkins held the attorney designation hearing for John Colyandro, Jim Ellis and Warren RoBold. Colyandro is executive director of Texans for a Republican Majority, or TRMPAC. Ellis is executive director of Americans for a Republican Majority, and RoBold is a fund-raiser for both organizations.
The three political associates of U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay were indicted on charges of illegally raising corporate money to help the GOP take control of the Texas House in 2002 elections and elect Tom Craddick as speaker.
Colyandro and Ellis are charged with money laundering for allegedly using a Republican national committee to funnel illegal corporate money into state legislative races in 2002.
