Kerry Mocks Bush's 'Scowling Faces,' Leadership
ELYRIA, Ohio (Reuters) - Democratic challenger John Kerry (news - web sites) on Saturday claimed victory over President Bush (news - web sites) in their second debate, mocked his rival's "scowling faces" and scoffed at the Republican incumbent's leadership skills.

The Massachusetts senator, campaigning in the vital battleground state of Ohio the morning after he and Bush faced off in a testy 90-minute exchange on Iraq (news - web sites), jobs and taxes, also expressed incredulity at the president's inability to own up to any mistakes.

"Do we want leadership -- as it's called -- that can't face reality and admit mistakes, or do we want leadership that sees the truth and tells the truth to the American people?" Kerry asked thousands of cheering supporters on a sports field at Lorain Community College in Elyria.
..........
"For me, the most stunning moment of the whole evening was when George Bush (news - web sites) was asked to name three mistakes ... and the president couldn't even name one mistake," Kerry said. "He sort of glossed it over by saying 'I made some mistakes in the appointments that I made but I don't want to tell anybody who they are -- it might embarrass them."'

"Well, now every member of the Cabinet ... is standing around wondering was it that Cabinet member that disappeared or this Cabinet member that didn't tell the truth. I just want him to know I agree with him about those bad appointments.

1. More likely the appointments that told the truth and tried to tell others

and ended up quitting in protest, or are still there trying to get word out to the outside about Bush's lies.

They are what Bush considers his mistakes. Folks who are acting as roadblocks to Bush's ultimate consolidation of power.

13. About time!
I got banned from the Kerry blog this summer for suggesting periodically that Kerry needed to mount a stronger attack on Bush.

Now he's taking advice such as I offered, they still won't let me back on their blog, though. I let them know several times, both on the 'net and by snail mail that until they quit stifling the free speech of their supporters they won't get another dime out of me.

I wish I could contribute more than I already have to this campaign in good conscience.

14. They don't deserve you Seabiscuit
If they're that closed-minded its their own fault and loss.

I'm glad you're here on the DU!

16. Thank you.
I just pray that Kerry didn't jump start his attack engine so late in the campaign that it costs him the election. I've been worried about that ever since Iowa and New Hampshire. It's a relief to *finally* see him dogging Dubya as he should have last year, last winter, last spring, and this summer. But is it too little too late?

10. "thousands of cheering supporters"
I like that. Last Saturday, after the first debate, I saw a brief clip of the puppet up in the North Country somewhere at a "rally." His jibes against Kerry evoked a very feeble volume of "boooos" (at Kerry's name). Sure didn't sound like thousands there. And I read somewhere - here? - that his Wilkes-Barre rally the other day was not well attended?

I wish we had a running total of the turn-out for each campaign's events.

11. Inaccurate, as usual
As I posted on another thread, this "reporter" left out an important fact, which I have inserted in bold letters:

"Do we want leadership -- as it's called -- that can't face reality and admit mistakes, or do we want leadership that sees the truth and tells the truth to the American people?" Kerry asked thousands of cheering supporters on a sports field at Lorain Community College in Elyria, who had not been screened in advance for their unquestioning fealty as they are at Bush appearances.
