Bush Ridicules Kerry Call for Summit on Iraq
Edited on Fri Oct-01-04 04:55 PM by RedEarth
MANCHESTER, N.H. (Reuters) - President Bush (news - web sites) accused Democrat John Kerry (news - web sites) of new contradictions and ridiculed his call for a summit on Iraq (news - web sites) on Friday as he sought to rebound from a debate that many Americans thought Kerry won.

The day after the first presidential debate, Bush swept into two battleground states, Pennsylvania and New Hampshire, and many of his jabs against Kerry sounded like what he wished he had said at the Miami encounter on Thursday night.

Bush advisers grudgingly conceded that Kerry gave an articulate performance -- "a slick debater," in the words of one -- after snap polls taken after the debate showed Kerry won the first of three debates.

But as for the substance, Bush took great issue with many of Kerry's positions and wasted little time in aggressively attacking them, particularly his pledge that if elected he would call a summit to seek more international help on Iraq.

1. Yet he talked proudly of having summits in the debate
 you're playing both sides now Georgie. It won't hurt to have a summit.

24. Yeah, he says he has one scheduled for NOVEMBER
Well isn't that kind of a day late and a dollar short George? Wasn't the time to have a summit meeting BEFORE you sent in troops? That might have been a bit more effective than drawing a line in the sand and telling the whole world "You're either with us, or you're against us."

What Bush and his supporters don't seem to get is the possibility that once Kerry is in office, with this mess that he's inherited in Iraq, more of our allies just might be willing to help clean up that mess. No, it's not their mess to begin with, it's ours. However EVERYONE on the planet has an interest in stabilizing Iraq. Maybe, just maybe, with a clear plan and KERRY, we can get some help. No one wants to join a losing team.

Launch more offensives against the Iraqi people? Oh yeah, that's working like a charm.

10. Yes they will be fighting pitched battles in Iraq all month
and declaring "victories" all along the way, they hope. It started last night. They tried this already, and it took Sistani to pull the US troops out of the fire. This will fail. * can be determined if he wants, but the Iraqis are more determined. How do you "win" against an enemy who is willing to martyr themselves for the cause?

5. OK, so now he is preaching to the choir who have to sign a loyalty oath
to him and now he thinks he is a big cheese. He failed miserably last night, but now, in a spirit of revenge, for it is certain that he is seething at the humiliation he suffered under the piercing words of Kerry--so here here is the little boy once again under the protective tent and does he choose to present any of his plans -- no he chooses to get revenge--the little boy up against a real man.

9. typical bully
He's just like every schoolyard bully. Sure, he struts around with his droogs, beating up third graders for their lunch money, but once a kid his own age catches him alone, he becomes a whimpering little bitch. Of course, once he's back with his group and has the numbers, he starts insulting and challenging the kid who had the audacity to expose his weakness.

What a pathetic little pissant.

you should have said five hours too late. Doh! Well get out there and yell about it -- only shows how you were unable to think of those responses when you had a chance to yammer on national television. Also its a lot easier to attack someone when they can't answer back.

as long as that asshole is in office. Once President Kerry takes over I'm sure other countries will be more willing to think about it. Let's face it. Most other countries now hate Bush's guts and wouldn't help him if he got down on his hands and knees and begged.

Edited on Fri Oct-01-04 06:37 PM by vadem0557
they are not dying for a mistake, they are dying for their country. They have done everything that their country has asked of them--that is not a mistake--that is called Patriotism. Mr. President, are you really that oblivious to the facts that you cannot even admit that it was you and your administration that has made the mistake? You have continually dodged your responsibilty and have no more credibility here at home or abroad. America is ready for a change.

Edited on Fri Oct-01-04 07:07 PM by krkaufman
"Wow!" lines from the article...

"I've been to a lot of summits. I've never seen a meeting that would depose a tyrant or bring a terrorist to justice," Bush said.

If Bush had been paying attention during the debate, he might have remembered today, barely 12 hours later, that Kerry had called for a summit of our allies (current and former) and of Middle East governments in order to plot a path to peace and stability for Iraq. Kerry's statement made no reference to the already deposed Hussain or to the Bush-forgotten bin Laden.

"The use of troops to defend America must never be subject to a veto by countries like France."

Certainly. And no one other than Bush is suggesting it. But is this the type of diplomacy that is going to bring our former allies back to our side? Wasn't Bush the one in the debate talking about how our leader must be aware of the effect of his words on our allies?

"We're not going to get additional support. The burden is going to be carried by the Americans, and British and our other coalition partners."

We've *gotta* get this video clip into TV ads. Talk about making the American sphincters tighten!! With continual slurs from Bush against our formerly tight allies, like the above against France, it's a near certainty that we'll not receive any assistance.

27. Isn't that hilarious!
look at that last line: "if elected, he would call a summit to seek more international help on Iraq".

He's got to be kidding here. What is it they've done, all this time? They've gone back to the U.N., time and time again. They've called country after country, sounding like ridiculous telemarketers. "Will you help in this noble effort?" "No". Click.

Bangla Desh, India, even Pakistan the Buddy, the Phillipines just got punished, country after country has been asked.

What's he going to do: threaten them at gunpoint to go help?

As I recall it was more like, Its your responsibility, You have to shoulder the burden for peace and other statement TELLING them they must like he is their momma. I wouldn't listen either if someone made a mess then told me I had to help clean it up. He bribed, threatened, mocked and chided but I don't remember him asking.

32. You Noted Bush's Cowboy Stance Completely!
And if anyone doesn't agree with him, he'll send a few divisions of our troops to get them. He knows they have mini nuclear bombs in their pockets and will explode them at any minute over our major cities. It's national security issue, you know. He just knows they are stealing strawberries and he's going to hold them accountable. He has his priorities.
