US Personnel Under Curfew In Korea
Anti-war talk by S. Koreans cited
as cause for 9 p.m. curfew

The U.S. military Friday imposed a 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew until further notice because of possible violence in South Korea stemming from Korea’s military involvement in Iraq. The restrictions apply not only to active-duty military personnel, but also to civilian employees and contractors and their families, said Kevin Krejcarek, a U.S. Forces Korea spokesman. In addition, U.S. military installations in South Korea were stepping up security measures, including increased patrols, random vehicle stops and tighter visitor screening. Additional South Korean police were posted outside U.S. installations and other facilities, U.S. authorities said.

4. They've been on curfew for the last year...
but the curfew used to be a midnight to 6 curfew.

Many bars and clubs here refuse service to GIs. A lot of it is due to a few bad apples of course, but in some ways it's to be expected. You take young guys (and girls, but I've never seen a female GI fight) from small towns with limited experience, drop them in a culture that's totally different from american culture, and give em some booze, you're just asking for trouble....

as a small aside, I'd like to add that I'm sooooo happy more Korean police are being assigned to protect American soldiers as opposed to doing their actual jobs (not that they do a lot of that here, traffic violations is a word that is unknown to Koreans).
