Bush Spending Little Time at White House
If you're looking for President Bush (news - web sites), don't bother searching the White House.

Bush has not spent a full day in Washington since Aug. 2 — roaming the country rather than staying in the Oval Office as he seeks a second term.

On Wednesday, he'll break a 44-day, outside-the-Beltway streak to host a concert and reception at the White House in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. But not for long: He's back on the road the next day.

1. Well, it's not like he's really the President or anything. His handlers
don't let him make any decisions.

That's why he is always on vacation or campaigning. His handlers feel that the less time he spends in the Washington, the less possibility he will screw up the PNAC agenda.

3. But didn't they say...
Kerry is missing too many days in the Senate? If you take shrubs vacation time and political dancing around this year, how many days was here for national security? How safe are we? Aren't we in a national crisis? Isn't there a war on terrorism?

How many personal days do you all get?

4. Hey, it's good to have you here!
It feels good to see someone like you with ten posts, so close to election day. Great.

I read that Bush spent about 40% of his time on vacation. Just recently, Max Cleland had to wait outside the gates of the Crawford property to try and deliver the Kerry statement to him. What a loser. I don't know how he even got to be governor. I hear he just sqeeked by on that election. Now we see just what favored treatment does for the world, when it's done to someone who is irresponsible.

8. I agree! Who's the heck is running Kerry's campaing? aWol is first
sworn to serve and protect America and the American constitution and not to protect his sleazy coward butt. Why doesn't the Kerry team pounce on this? Especially with terrorist threats are so great as Mueller and Asscroft and Cheney and Rumsfeld... say. aWol should be first protecting America.

Every type of civility in politics has been broken and molested by republicans. Then the Dems are always caught flat footed and stammering for a way to respond. The Dems operate with morals and the repukes run with immorality. Kerry MUST attack first. I agree with you. Kerry should hold a press conference and call attention to how aWol was on vacation and didn't feel like reading the PDB warning of Bin Laden attacking America. Then the day of the attack aWol was again out of the WH playing around in FL with children. Is Kerry really a coward to attack?

11. I wonder what the overhead on the oval office is like
for us taxpayers--vacant for more than half of shrub's term.

(Lights on nobody home the rest if the time too).

That's a lot of time. Most landlords, and we are the landlords, would shut down the ac/heating, phones, water, you name it. Or just rent it out to cover all that--not sure what the hell you could put in there on the spare of the moment with no notice, maybe some sort of rave/disco party. Cash (and we need some).

Ask me, this resident needs to look into those rent-an-office things, maybe just a cubicle somewhere. Out-source that occasional need for an actual office, that way we can finally put up that VACANCY sign the damned secret service keeps taking down.

13. And they rip on Kerry for not attending Senate votes?
The Pretzledent of the United States doesn't even come near the Oval Office for 44 days and nobody raises an eyebrow! Talk about your lowered expectations...

14. I thought Junior...
...would want to spend as much time at the Whitehouse as possible before he gets kicked out on his ass!

Then again, the panic campaigning he's doing should be seen as the last act of a desperate man (sorry, chimp!)

15. And how is this news?
This is normal. He's ALWAYS out campaigning/fund raising or on vacation. ALWAYS. He should have to punch a clock and get paid (minimum wage) accordingly.

16. Bush would make an excellent First Lady.
Edited on Wed Sep-15-04 07:03 AM by July
Photo ops, fundraisers, pep rallies, and T-ball games are his "job." He's not required to talk to anyone about serious issues, and in fact is protected from the possibility. He's not expected to make long or profound remarks about policy, but instead is expected to cheerlead with some religious and patriotic cliches. He may not be criticized.

The only thing missing is a cookie recipe.

Editing to add that this is far from my idea of what a First Lady should and can be, but it is the Republican Ideal.
