International team to monitor voting in 5 states
Associated Press

WASHINGTON - A team of international observers will go to five states beginning Friday to monitor preparations for the Nov. 2 presidential election.

The observers, organized by the San Francisco human rights group Global Exchange, will meet with voters, voting-rights groups and local officials to discuss voter disenfranchisement, the security of electronic voting machines and the influence of money in politics.

The 20-member group includes lawyers, former elected officials, election experts and activists.

They will split up and travel next week to Florida, Ohio, Arizona, Missouri and Georgia.

2. Did you ever expect observations to be necessary in the US?
I remember hearing about Carter going to different places around the world to observe voting to insure fair elections and how sad it was that it was necessary to do so. It makes me very sad to know that we now think this is necessary to do that here now.
