Mayor: Be nice to the delegates
Anyone abusing Republican delegates threatens New Yorkers' jobs -- and the city's safety, Mayor Michael Bloomberg warned Thursday.

"Whether you agree with their political views or not, your job is at stake," he said on Fox-TV's "Good Day New York." "The safety of your family" is at stake, he asserted, "because the moneys are used to provide all of the services the city government provides. A lot comes from tourism jobs."

Bloomberg spoke just hours before Bush met in Queens with firefighters -- an event arranged without his involvement.

The Republican mayor's remarks after greeting convention delegates at the Bronx Zoo contrasted with those from ex-mayor Rudolph Giuliani and Gov. George Pataki, who take turns ridiculing Democratic challenger John Kerry.

1. A delegate answers with his view of the host city:

"I left God's country," said Leon Mosley of Waterloo, Iowa, co-chairman of his state's Republican party. "They could use a bunch of people from Iowa to come here to show New Yorkers what life is all about, what being patriotic is all about, and what country is all about. I'm as confident about Bush being re-elected as I am that eggs are going to be in New York tomorrow morning.''

3. Eggs in New York?
What exactly is that supposed to mean? Oh and DO please show all of us who were in NYC on 9/11/01 what life and patriotism are about. We have been lost without your down-home wisdom.

4. NYC as a tourist destination
is not the issue, and frankly, is not even a question. If Bloomberg wants to be re-elected mayor, he had better start thinking about what comes out of his mouth.

5. Just because he invited them doesn't mean you have to play along.
Keep up the good work NY.

6. He invited them and half the city headed for the hills
Plus the usual tourists that come to town, are staying away in droves. Economically, this convention has been a disaster for NYC.

8. As a Canadian who made my first trip to NYC this summer
once John Kerry is in the Whitehouse I will be on the first plane destined for New York ... cause it has to be the best city on this planet ...and I will keep going back because I L O V E the people of New York ... sentient beings as far as the eye can see.
