Bushies love 'Raymond'
NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Looking to sway a few undecided voters? Take a highly controversial ad financed by an outside group, buy a few time slots in Ohio -- and make sure it airs on "Everybody Loves Raymond."

That's because, according to a recent study, those prized uncommitted voters sitting on their battleground couches are watching Ray Romano fend off his overbearing mother, week after week after week.

When it comes to comedies, Republicans also seem to get a kick out of "Raymond."

Dems? They like "Will & Grace."

These findings come from global media buying firm Interactive Media Worldwide, which ranked TV viewing preferences by Democrats, Republicans -- and the holdouts.

5. I can't really stand either one of them....
We don't want to be told when to laugh. We are tired of being anesthetized by the TV, of having products we don't want pushed at us. Much of TV is a complete waste of time, and a big contributor to the mess we are in now (America = mass of unthinking sheep)

14. No, but she has voiced support for the GOP several times in tv interviews
and I do believe that she's even a fundraiser for them too.

Let me go "fishing"...be right back.

16. Patricia Heaton was featured in the documentary "The R Word"
...which profiled conservatives, libertarians and/or Republicans in Hollywood. From what I recall, she really is a Republican.

That said, I still watch "Everybody Loves Raymond." The premise of the show is "Hell is other people," (at least that's how I read it), and I don't think it matters what political persuasion you are. There's always something upsetting the delicate balance of friends and family -- jealousy, sexual frustration, smothering, sibling rivalry, etc.

And Doris Roberts, who plays Raymond's mother, is an anti-ageism activist and so gets kudos from me. And Peter Boyle (of "Young Frankenstein" fame) seems like a very decent guy, from what I've read about him.

19. better proof
Craig Kilborn: "So you're actually, I didn't know this, even though I've interviewed you a number of times, I didn't know that you are a Republican and you actually aren't shy about saying that."

Patricia Heaton: "Well, and you can all thank me for your tax refund, right?"

Kilborn: "That's right, we got a tax refund."

Heaton: "Yeah, and all these Democratic friends who, you know, are like 'I can't believe you voted for Bush' and I was like, hey, I get a tax refund, thank you very much."

Kilborn: "You're taking credit, yourself."

Heaton: "I'm taking credit myself."

Kilborn: "There aren't many celebrities, aren't many Hollywood people who are Republicans."

Heaton: "No, I was, you know what, I hate to say I am a Republican because there are some issues that I'm very Democratic on and some issues, I'm against the death penalty, so that's more of a Democratic Party thing. Pro-life so that's more Republican, so, it's hard, but, but I'm like the only celebrity they could get to come to this thing in Washington. Like no one else would go, it was like me and a ventriloquist."

Kilborn: "Is that right? That's funny. There are no Republicans around."

Heaton: "I know, no, no one will admit to it."

Kilborn: "That's funny."

Heaton: "It's too bad that we live in a country where people would feel ashamed to be in one party or another."

Kilborn: "Right."

Heaton: "It's just that's what makes-"

Kilborn: "You're very carefree, you're very open with this stuff unless you're on a plane where they're not giving you a sandwich you're pretty easy going."

Heaton: "This is the thing, if someone, I'm the kind of person that if someone tells me I can't do something or shouldn't be something then I would automatically do that, because someone told me I couldn't."

Kilborn: "Oh, one of those."

Heaton: "So it's kind of, in Hollywood it's almost like because everybody is Democratic"

Kilborn: "It's so irritating."

Heaton: "It's irritating. You know, I don't feel like a lemming."

Kilborn: "Right, right."

Heaton: "You know, so I will just sort of-"

Kilborn: "Well, I guess that's a good reason to be a Republican."

12. I'm prepared to get flamed here -
but I really enjoy "Raymond". It's a chance to laugh about a family that's dysfunctional, but coping, and genuinely loving. Similar in spirit to "The Simpsons".

Yes, yes, I know Patricia Heaton's a RW shill. Big deal. Peter Boyle was friends with John & Yoko.

17. Well, I for one are on your side..............
.....I think the show has been hilarious. It's not as good as it used to be, but the writing, acting and directing have been top-notch over 10 years.

And note that it said the "undecideds" watch Raymond, too. Raymond is huge in syndication.

As for Will and Grace, as a gay man, I find the show offensive. The characters--gay and straight--are so unbelievable and over the top. I could care less about them--they have never seemed real to me.

22. Why would Republicans like "Everybody Loves Raymond???"
That show is about a middle-class American family with a father who has a good job, the family lives in a nice house and has time to spend with each other, and with retired parents who seem to be in good health with time to enjoy their retirement?

How does this bear any resemblance to the republican ideal of impoverished wage slaves, both parents working 80 hour weeks for less than minimum wage, while the grandparents work at Wal-Mart to earn enough money to choose between food and medicine? All the while living in constant fear in a fundamentalist hell of tattletails, informers, snitches, police states, and worldwide war?
