Bush Criticizes Anti-Kerry Television Ad
WASHINGTON - President Bush (news - web sites) on Monday criticized a commercial that accused John Kerry (news - web sites) of inflating his own Vietnam War record, more than a week after the ad stopped running, and said broadcast attacks by outside groups have no place in the race for the White House.

"I think they're bad for the system," added Bush, who had ignored calls to condemn the ad while it was on the air.

i just saw the headline and went- "yikes! bush is APOLOGIZING?! sun must have risen in the west today!"
so excitedly i posted it here.
upon reading the story, bush says nothing much at all directly abt the swift vote vets.

by the way, the same story has a paragraph about bob dole who says he spoke to kerry on the phone and said 'John, I didn't mean to offend you,' refering to his attack on kerry on TV.

so according to dole- "I respect his record, but three Purple Hearts and he never bled that I know of. I mean they're all superficial wounds. Three Purple Hearts and you're out"- was not supposed to offend??

what planet do these people come from?!

11. Reminds me of the Media Recount Headlines
"Recount Shows Bush Won" But then you read the article and it says the exact opposite. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! But so many people only read the headlines.

14. I don't know what planet they are from
or what rock they slithered out from. Sad, isn't it? Not a shred of decency or integrity among the lot of them.

9. Keep up the heat, the bush coward will buckle under pressure
bush can't take pressure, he is a coward and will hide behind others to do the dirty work, keep up the heat and smoke him out where Americans can see what he is. The only remedy for this is a full and complete discussion of military records of both candidates. Let the truth be known so Americans can decide which is the hero and which is the Coward with a big mouth. Taunt bush to make him stand up like a man and stop hiding behind others.

2. Ugh! I hate how they make headlines.
He didn't say anything besides what he's said for the past 2 weeks; that he wants to stop "all 527's".

Just because he said "that ad" doesn't count.

Yahoo! are bastards.

3. More
Asked about the issue, Bush said, "I think Senator Kerry served admirably and he ought to be proud of his record. But the question is who is best to lead the country in the war on terror? Who can handle the responsibilities of the commander in chief? Who's got a clear vision of the risks that the country faces?"

Obviously anyone but you asshole!

7. He will denounce it.
I predict that after he takes a pounding all week on the swift boat assholes, he'll demounce the ad(s). And the network pukes will lavish praise on what a swell guy he is.

8. hmm..surprising. i'm shocked.
but with the ads no longer running, it's like apologizing for a murder after it's already been commited. In other words, it means nothing..

10. This was NOT criticism!!!
Please media....don't let these people get away with it again! Bush should have said what McCain did when he first heard the ad....he didn't! That should make even Republicans angry. How much can Rove and Co. get away with?

13. correction from WH: He didn't mean Swift Boat ad...
Edited on Mon Aug-23-04 11:38 PM by Virginian
He meant all 527s.
He meant the ones that tell the truth, not the one that lies.
We know that Swift boat is a subsidiary of the GOP, so it isn't really a 527.

15. Even the BBC makes same headline error
Bush most definately did NOT criticize the anti-Kerry spot. I am shocked that so many media types fell for this.

16. I love what Yahoo and the BBC did!
They put a "Bush denounced the (not so) Swift-boat idiots!" spin on it, when he really didn't. The idiots out there will think Bush actually denounced the ads... as we wish the prick would. This is really pretty funny, and mis-leading in our favor for a change!

17. I wonder
The honorable thing to do would be for Bush to denounce the SBVT ads, since he is not doing so, he is a dishonorable man.

Though, I can see your point that some voters will think less of SBVT if Bush condems them.

Still, I would rather see SBVT shown up for the dirty-tricksters they are and then have Bush look his usual wussy self for not having acted against them.

Kerry's speech in a few hours about the history of the Bush Family's dirty tricks should help. I hope he gives us all a good education. As Hubert H. Humphrey said, the role of educator is one of the three important roles of the president (no link, I recall it from a Sunday morning show in 1976.)

Bush the educator: listen to kids reading about a pet goat while Al Qaeda carries out attacks on America.

19. Not only did he NOT criticize the anti-Kerry ad...
Edited on Tue Aug-24-04 03:58 AM by Buzzz
"But the White House quickly moved to insist that Mr. Bush had not meant in any way to single out the advertisement run by veterans opposed to Mr. Kerry."

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/08/24/politics/campaign/24swift.html?hp

They're actually going out of their way to let people know that they are not criticizing it. So would they similarly condemn "terrorism" but not Osama bin Laden when politically advantageous?

22. Another lying bullshit headline rides to Little Chimp's rescue
So, in other words, no organization or group other than the political parties themselves should air political advertisements? Wow, Cnimpy, what a bold and stunningly direct rebuke of the Slime Barge Liars - NOT.

24. That headline is a lie.
He criticized the 527s, Because they hurt him also, not the anti-Kerry ad, there is a huge difference.
