Bush (news - web sites)'s campaign adviser on courting Catholic voters quit this week after revelations of sexual misconduct with a female student that forced him to resign as a tenured professor at a leading Catholic university where he taught years ago.
Deal Hudson, 54, publisher of the Catholic journal, Crisis, said in an article in the online edition of the conservative National Review that he was leaving the Bush campaign because of the sexual harassment complaint that forced him to resign from Fordham University, a Jesuit school in the New York borough of The Bronx.
"Like many people, I have done things in my life that I regret," said Hudson, who taught at Fordham from 1989 to the time of his departure in 1995. "No one regrets my past mistakes more than I do."
Fordham spokeswoman Elizabeth Schmalz confirmed the harassment complaint, telling the New York Times, "Fordham followed its policy rigorously in this matter and initiated an investigation upon receipt of the student complaint.
