US army poised to charge 24 people in Abu Ghraib case
August 19, 2004

The US army is poised to bring new charges in the Abu Ghraib scandal, launching disciplinary actions against two dozen soldiers and civilian contractors involved in the interrogation of Iraqi detainees, Pentagon officials said yesterday.

In a new report on interrogation practices at the Baghdad prison, which could be released as early as tomorrow, Major General George Fay recommends disciplinary proceedings against at least 24 personnel attached to the 205th Military Intelligence Brigade at the notorious jail.

<snip>

Further evidence that the abuse was widespread and systematic is expected to emerge next week, with the release of another investigation, led by the former CIA director James Schlesinger.

Lawyers for the military police argue that their clients have been made the scapegoats for a culture of abuse, and that the seven had been told to abuse prisoners by military intelligence personnel to soften them up for interrogation.

1. So who will it be? A bunch of privates, a couple of sergeants and the
token colonel? How about Rummy? How about those blood thirsty memo writing lawyers? How about the person those memos were written for?

2. Only a "few bad apples"
Rumsfailed Admitted to Violating Geneva Convention

Rumsfailed admitted in public that when CIA Director Tenet requested that an Irai prisoner be sent to a secret Afghan/US Prison that Rumsfailed did so. After four months a DOD Attorney stated that this was an illegal act. Rumsfailed then ordered that this prisoner be sent back to Abu Graib but the prisoner was not listed at that location. That is two violations of the Geneva Convention. Tenet and Rumsfailed violated the Geneva convention, thereby also The Constitution of the USA. Not one complaint or charge was made regarding Rumsfailed and Tenet, not even by any Dem in Congress. Rumsfailed's admission came after some in Congress called for his resignation and after Rep. Rangel issued Impeachment of Rumsfailed, which nothing has been heard of since/.

Does the US no longer follow the Geneva Convention or the Constitution of the USA?

It appears so.

4. We don't need no Geeneever 'ventions. We are such a pure and holy nation

that we can never do any wrong. Even when we torture, kill and maim innocent civilians, it is all in interest of righteousness. We are Americans, and we can do no wrong.

And that old Constitution thing - you just have to understand, EVERYTHING HAS CHANGED since 9/11. If our founding fathers had ever imagined planes flying into buildings, they would have left that whole torture clause in the Constitution, and gotton rid of that silly Bill of Rights. Now that we have a truly Gawdly president, we can put our faith in him, and him alone. Praise *Jaysus.

*may not be even distantly related to that other person with the similar name. That one was a total wuss.
-------

By the way, where is that Geeneever? That's in one of them gawdless Yuuropeen countries, isn't it? Good, real red blooded 'murkins would never have signed some wussy Yuuropeen document anyway, so just forget that.

3. This will be interesting - or not.
Lessee - the CO gets a reprimand - so he's got essentially what boils down to a piece of paper. That leaves maybe a staff officer or 2, and maybe a platoon/section leader, and of course, a bevy of the enlisted folk. What a joke.

What I'd like to see is something reaching just a little bit higher, say into the Division/Corp or EAC level, even like maybe a cabinet official or Preznit.

Then it'd be fair and complete -

Stick it to the CINC - jerk that he is, nail the chain of command hard with career ending courts marhall charges, and simply bounce the minions (who can't tell right from wrong) on undesirable discharges.
