Bush* works Washington like a swing state
President Bush lands in Seattle this afternoon to continue his fight against John Kerry, the polls, pundits and 20 years of history.

A Republican hasn't won the presidential vote in Washington since 1984. Most GOP candidates since then hardly could be bothered to try.

(snip)

The president is following a carefully crafted plan to turn this piece of traditionally Democratic territory in the left-hand corner of the nation into one of the year's 17 or so swing states.

"From the first day I got this job, the Bush campaign and the White House told me Washington would be important, and nobody believed me," said Republican state Chairman Chris Vance.

He says he's seen polls showing Bush close to Democrat John Kerry in Washington. But more than that, Vance sees Bush visits, a steady stream of TV commercials and national party leaders' abiding interest in the state as proof that Washington is in play

14. The International "No W" Icon
Works well for me. Last night in Redmond while waiting for appearance of the Bush boy's motorcade there was a nice young lady working through the crowd sharing the "No W" stickers and chat. Seemed like those waiting around RTC were for the most part anti-Bush, and this is in the more conservative east side of Lake Washington.
Anyway, the diagonal striped W icon was handy also as just the right simple image to emblazon the back window of the Bonnesaurus (my pet Pontiac) which was conveniently parked in sight of the driveway used by the motorcade. Perhaps that or my posterboard "Bush Be Gone" was seen as he left this morning.

Hey George, spend as much time in Washington as you want. It won't do any good.

16. Brave talk for the local newspapers
Suitable for whistling past the graveyard. Bush stopped by Washington to pick up a few samoleans because he happened to be in the neighborhood. Don't look for another visit. Oregon is dropping off the "in play" list, and for some strange reason, California seems to have lost interest in Republican fumblemouths who don't speak English as a first language.

9. Not while I'm living here!
Bush can zip in to raise 2.4 million for the GOP but can't be bothered to see REAL people, then fuck him. Sometimes I think this cross country travelling does so little... the attack ads seem to work, unfortunately, with voters.

15. I see LESS Bush supporters now in Eastern Wash than 2000..
A lot of his base has either died or woken up to the fact he's just doing it for the oil and money. He SURE doesn't stop by little old Republic hiding out here in the highlands! Not enough millionaires per square foot like Medina. Wonder if he got a round of golf in?

20. Bush didn't "work" Washington.....
He zipped in. Screwed up traffic. Pocketed a couple a million. Then left. Laura saw more of Washington last summer when she spent a week at Crescent Lake in Olympic National Park.

22. It was an effing sham
Boeing has ~60,000 employees in the Seattle area, and about 5-10,000 work within 20 miles of Boeing Field and some within walking distance of the airport. But Boeing couldn't seem to have more than 30 of them to greet *? Let's see there was Alan Mulally, and some executive weenies. Some representation!

And * had to meet with his base, the ones he gets his dough from. Never mind the rest of us. Well, screw him. We'll screw him in November!

23. *snort* If the GOP thinks WA is in play, we've already won
The RNC needs to be shoring up support in tipsy Arizona and North Carolina and fighting for Ohio, not farting around on the Left Coast. But what the hell, the more time they waste here the better Kerry's chances get.
