Halliburton in more Iraq trouble?
Pentagon auditors said to find failure to account for $1.8 billion in contracts.
August 11, 2004: 6:46 AM EDT

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Pentagon auditors have concluded that Halliburton Co. failed to adequately account for more than $1.8 billion of work in Iraq and Kuwait, said a newspaper citing a Pentagon report.

The amount represents 43 percent of the $4.18 billion that Houston-based Halliburton's Kellogg Brown & Root unit has billed the Pentagon to feed and house troops in the region, the Wall Street Journal reported.

2. Why on earth would we pay Halliburton an extra $1.8 billion...
...on their word alone?

I don't know about the rest of you, but my experience with *state* government contracts has been that if you can't itemize and account for every penny you bill, they don't pay the bill (they deduct what you can't prove).

Does the bill from Halliburton literally have a line saying, 'Miscellaneous Additional Charges: $1,800,000,000'?

If the Bush administration pays this, they are either incompetent or criminal (always back to those two possibilities with the Bushes, eh?).
