(Rep. Kucinich) petitions to revoke FirstEnergy's Ohio operating license
WASHINGTON (AP)

An Ohio congressman and longtime critic of FirstEnergy Corp., the Ohio-based utility at the center of the investigation into last week's blackout, wants the company's operating license revoked.

Rep. Dennis Kucinich, a Democratic presidential contender, will petition the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio to revoke FirstEnergy's right to operate in Ohio, spokesman Doug Gordon said.

Kucinich would release the petition at a news conference in Cleveland on Wednesday afternoon, Gordon said. A copy of the complaint was not immediately available, but it was related to "mismanagement and a climate of putting profit above the public interest," a release on the news event said. -

10. I'm afraid Bush will send another mini-missile at his private plane
just like Bush ordered the strike on Wellstone.

13. Thank you, Kucinich
Vision of an FDR. Pen of an MLK. Balls of stone--Wellstone. :-)

Today's Democratic Party could learn a lot from him.

2. This is great
This kind of quick response to the blackout (though, as the article says, K's been after FirstEnergy for a while) will benefit both Kucinich and the Dem's overall.

3. This is why we need Dennis in the White House
He's the candidate who will stop special interests from hurting the people. Dean would probably give them a tax break.

4. Power to the People
"POWER TO THE PEOPLE, MY STORY"
Throughout Dennis Kucinich's political career, he has battled for public power and against privatization and deregulation. Today, he's demanding answers about the massive power failure that rocked our country, a blackout that reports indicate may have started within the FirstEnergy Corp system. Dennis fought First Energy's predecessor, Cleveland Electric (CEI), when he saved Cleveland's city-owned utility in the late 1970s.

He told his story over the weekend in a compelling essay. To read

8. He owes them. I hope he takes them down.

They've cost Cleveland so much.

The power industry up there cost him his mayorship as well. When he did not succumb to their blackmail, they bankrupted the city and blamed it on him.

9. Worst Energy (First Energy) is on the ropes already
There is a football-sized hole in the containment vessel lid at Davis-Besse nucular plant, where boric acid corroded the lid. They have huge debts. They have been laying off line crews. Let them go into bankruptcy; let the shareholders eat it. Maybe we can establish a better company in its place.
