Officials dumbfounded by Katherine Harris statement(terror plot in Indiana
First of all, Harris is on the Intelligence Committee? :scared:

http://www.wesh.com/news/3614988/detail.html

VENICE, Fla. -- Officials in Indiana and Washington said they were dumbfounded by a statement U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris, of Sarasota, made about a terrorist plot to blow up a power grid in Indiana.

During a speech to 600 people Monday in Venice, Harris either shared a closely held secret or passed along secondhand information as fact.
A staff member of the U.S. House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, which oversees the nation's intelligence operations, said he had heard of no such plot, and Indiana officials in the county where the power grid is located were at a loss to explain where the information originated.

In an interview Tuesday, Harris would not reveal the name of the mayor who told her about the threat or provide further details.

She said in the speech that a man of Middle Eastern heritage had been arrested in the plot and that explosives were found in his home in Carmel, a suburb north of Indianapolis.

2. This reminds me of the Jon Stewart bit where he calls CNN on their
reporting. He remarked that they should change the name of the shows to Ya know what I heard? That is about where we are with this crew, no back up, no sources no nothing, just hey, ya know what I heard? This is truly bottom of the barrel pathetic.

32. oh, yeah, I think I read that somewhere . . .
around page 1,206. Oh, wait, wait, maybe it was page 846? Yeah, that was it. It expressly stated The U.S. Patriot Act of 2001 specifically applies, ONLY, to Democrats who vote! Yup, that's where it was buried.

Harris, a Republican who is running for re-election, said the case was an example of the nation's success in fighting terrorism.

If that were really true, wouldn't someone other than this DEMOCRACY ANNIHILATER be screaming it on FAUX? Say, like Tom Ridge or Stupidhead...especially on his swing through the Midwest? Hmmmmm?

13. indy tv station exposes lie
This is the story from the Indianapolis NBC station. My favorite line is the last one, which I've included. (I hope I put this link in right)

http://www.wthr.com/Global/story.asp?S=2127364&nav=9TahPUHN

Terror plot reportedly linked to Carmel

(snip)

The mayor of Carmel, Indiana recounted how a man of Middle Eastern heritage had been arrested. "Hundreds of pounds of explosives were found in his home. He had plans to blow up the area's entire power grid," said Harris.

My favorite line is the last one:

FBI agents in Indiana say no one is under arrest for terrorism in Carmel and that Harris doesn't know what she's talking about.

Ain't that the truth?!

22. Was this the gop Carmel Mayor arrested for beating up his girlfriend
after a Jimmy Buffet concert? or did they get rid of that gop terrorist? and replace him with another. I always thought that was hilarious that a gop mayor would be a Parrothead. Not surprised that he was divorced and a beater though.

Recently Carmel has been toying with an ordinance that would permit ONLY BRICK homes to be built. NO wood, no aluminum siding. Real HEARTLAND types of Republican Family Values up there.

It is the heart of Dan Burton's district too.

18. The fact that she was elected to Congress after that election debacle
speaks volumes of the stupidity of the people of her district.

A friend of mine who lives in Fla. recently was sitting around the table tellling how he thought Bush was doing a good job, but the media won't let him alone. Rumsfeld, Bush and others should not be held accountable for what happened at Abu Ghraib because there's no way a person at the top of such a big institution can know what everybody below them is doing. Then, I pointed out that evidence indicates that the torturing was signed off by Rumsfeld or someone close to him, and the soldiers implicated in the case were taking orders from the top. To which he pointed out in his workplace, if a subordinate knows he's taking illegal orders from his supervisor, he should just refuse to do it. That's what he does at his workplace.

I've never served in the military, but I think there has to be a different kind of protocol when your superior tells you to do something than in a private business. Regardless of the order, I would think it's much tougher to refuse and you face repercussions if you do. Am I wrong?

19. This conniving lying witch
should be thrown out of her position in the USgovernment along with the administration that allows her to influence the jackass in the white house. She should have to answer in a court of law for her lies and manipulations. The problem is that once such statements as she made, the damage is done. The lie has been implanted in people's heads. This campaign of fear by the Bushco's is the lowest form of political control.

yes we all know that Katherine Harris is two French Fries short of a happy meal but she was elected because the Democratic Party was not united in 2002 in that area of the state and she just took advantage of the situation.

40. Last month in Iowa, the feds id'd all kinds of cases as "terror" cases
Harris could be continuing that kind of deceptive practice in her claim of 100 cases-

snip>
Included among the 35 cases were:

• Four American-born laborers who omitted mention of prior drug convictions or other crimes when they were assigned by a contractor to a runway construction project at the Des Moines airport or when they applied for manual-labor jobs there.

• Five Mexican citizens who stole cans of baby formula from store shelves throughout Iowa and sold them to a man of Arab descent for later resale.

• Two Pakistani men who entered into or solicited sham marriages so that they and their friends could continue to live in the Waterloo area and work at convenience stores there.

The Iowa arrests were part of a national compilation of statistics by the U.S. Department of Justice to lobby Congress.

Lumping minor crimes under the terrorism label could wrongly heighten public anxiety and provide a questionable rationale for more anti-terror resources, critics say.
