Ten Commandments shown at Scopes site

Associated Press

DAYTON, Tenn. (AP) - The Ten Commandments monument banished from Alabama's state judicial building began a national tour on the back of a flatbed truck on Saturday - starting outside the courthouse where the teaching of evolution was put on trial almost 80 years ago.

"The ACLU is still the enemy," said June Griffin of Dayton, an outspoken advocate for displays of the Ten Commandments in government buildings. She was referring to the American Civil Liberties Union.

About 75 people gathered to see the 5,280-pound granite monument outside the site of the Scopes monkey trial - where high school teacher John Scopes was convicted in 1925 of giving lessons on evolution. Many stepped up a ladder to take photos and pose beside the marker.

Ousted Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore, who lost his job for defying a federal court order to remove his display from the lobby of the judicial building, approved the national tour but is not participating.

Remember Rhea Ct Tennessee, which houses Dayton, recently banned homosexuals from living there, and after a day of national ridicule, changed their mind....

1. You know instead of worrying about this 'SACRED' cow why
don't they go out and follow some of those ten commandments? Or better yet spend their time on something worthwhile in the hereafter such as feeding the children, poor and down-trodden?

OH, not enough media attention I guess. And much easier to have your spiritual work down where it is PUBLICLY recognized than doing it in secret. :eyes:

2. Isn't Any Stone Big and Heavy Enough to Supress Truth
and no act of will can overcome Natural Law. But there are enough idiots to keep trying.

3. Stating the ACLU is still the enemy
is tantamount to stating our constitutionally guaranteed civil liberties are the enemy. These people are so whacked out that there is no hope of turning their views around until one by one something personally happens in their lives that THEIR civil liberties are threatened, in areas not having to do with religion, and need defending.

9. Would pointing out
the fact that they appear to be worshiping a rock change their minds?

4. June Griffin is one whacked-out woman...
...she applauded profusely when the county commissioners voted to "ban homosexuals" from living in the county. That's her lasting image in my mind. She also ran for US Senate as a GOPer, and said some very interesting things. I wish she were a national spokewoman for the RNC.

5. June is bordering on insanity, if not there already. She should go on
tour as a spokesperson for the GOP. That would knock a hole in their support. Even rabid wingers around here think that she's nuts.

6. These people make me ill.
I think the commandments were meant to be followed rather than looked at.
