Bush* Revises Views on "Combat" in Iraq
'Major Operations' Over, President Says

By Dana Milbank and Bradley Graham

President Bush, revising his earlier characterization of the fighting in Iraq, said in an interview released yesterday that combat operations are still underway in that country.

In an interview with the Armed Forces Radio and Television Service given on Thursday and released by the White House yesterday, Bush interrupted the questioner when asked about his announcement on May 1 of, as the journalist put it, "the end of combat operations."

"Actually, major military operations," Bush replied. "Because we still have combat operations going on." Bush added: "It's a different kind of combat mission, but, nevertheless, it's combat, just ask the kids that are over there killing and being shot at."

In his May 1 speech on the USS Abraham Lincoln, Bush declared: "Major combat operations in Iraq have ended. In the battle of Iraq, the United States and our allies have prevailed. And now our coalition is engaged in securing and reconstructing that country." The headline on the White House site above Bush's May 1 speech is "President Bush Announces Combat Operations in Iraq Have Ended."

Since then, a search of Bush speeches on the White House Web site indicates, the president had not spoken of the guerrilla fighting in Iraq as combat until this interview; he had earlier spoken of the "cessation of combat" in Iraq.

1. Howdy Doodoo misremembers anything he damned well wants.
There isn't an honest cell in his body. He's a psychopathic collection of programmed beliefs that're unattached to reason or integrity.

God talk about twisting and parsing the language but with the subtlety and cluelessness of a drunken ox blundering about in the china shop.

"What the president declared on May 1 is that major combat operations were over,"{ the spokesman} said. "He did not say that combat was over."

I don't know but Bush's own words in hs speech and the White House website headling "President Bush Announces Combat Operations in Iraq Have Ended" both sounded pretty unambiguos to me. Clearly they are backpedaling from the codpiece enhanced carrier fiasco as fast as they can scuttle.

""Polish troops are now moving in and will be in I think, by September 4th of this year, which is in two weeks -- that's a major Polish contingent," he said. "

News flash September 4th is in two weeks!!!! George has been studyin the calendar while at da ranch.

6. Hmm, isn't that just a long way of saying
he has "faith"? Of the Evangelical/Televangelical type anway? Sorry if I'm stepping on anyone's toes, feel free to believe whatever you wish, but don't try to cram it in my face.

Your phrasing does sounds better and is more descriptive.

12. There're great values in both logos and mythos.
For all of recorded human history, mankind has found great value in both logos (empirical reasoning, logic, rational argument) and mythos (fable, myth, parable, imagination). There's a difference between 'fact' and 'truth' -- the former being subordinate to the latter. As I think of it, 'truth' is often so evanescent that it requires a container, a vessel, to be conveyed from one mind to another. That container, in my view, is often that of myth or fiction. Who can read Aesop's Fables and take them literally? Who'd regard them as 'fact'? That does not mean they do not contain 'truth' -- and such truth can be known by its resonance in the heart and mind of a person having reached the age of reason.

When, however, a person treats mythos as though it were logos, failing to distinguish between a myth and a falsehood, that person can be regarded as either ignorant or insane, lacking either the reasoning power or the experience required of a sentient being. When children fail make the distinction before entering school, they are regarded as learning disabled, delinquents, or "at risk". When adults fail make the distinction, they are regarded as Republicans.

Lo·gos n.
--1. Philosophy.
-----a. In pre-Socratic philosophy, the principle governing the cosmos, the source of this principle, or human reasoning about the cosmos.
-----b. Among the Sophists, the topics of rational argument or the arguments themselves.
-----c. In Stoicism, the active, material, rational principle of the cosmos; nous. Identified with God, it is the source of all activity and generation and is the power of reason residing in the human soul.
--2. Judaism.
-----a. In biblical Judaism, the word of God, which itself has creative power and is God's medium of communication with the human race.
-----b. In Hellenistic Judaism, a hypostasis associated with divine wisdom.
--3. Christianity. In Saint John's Gospel, especially in the prologue (1:1-14), the creative word of God, which is itself God and incarnate in Jesus. Also called Word.

my·thos n. pl. my·thoi (mthoi, mthoi)
--1. Myth.
--2. Mythology.
--3. The pattern of basic values and attitudes of a people, characteristically transmitted through myths and the arts.

9. We're picking up the bill for ALL of them...
Poland, Estonia, Grand Duchy of Fenwick, all of them.

Japan might be paying for it's own troops, but they're getting something out of the deal, you can bet that.

As others have noted, Hessians were much cheaper.

I don't know why I'm laughing. Maybe it's because I think I just saw Bush with his pants down around his ankles, sitting on the pot. That article was ruthless, only because the guy printed exactly what Bush said.

17. Rumsfield told us that it wasn't guerrilla warfare!
Now junior tells us it's major combat operations. How can they do this with a straight face?

All I gotta say is we sure have a lot of dumb fucks here in the states. We have turned from a cultural society to a murderous
empire that controls the world. We sure haven't read history books very well, 'eh?

Well, 'tis all down hill from here on out, just a matter of time. I guess one could say Americans just got weary of the good life and
like other empires, became demented and jaded

Proud to an American, 'eh?

>> just ask the kids that are over there killing and being shot at.

Kids? They may have been kids when they got sent there but they deserve a lot more respect than that now. If you are playing a kill or be killed game for the benefit of your government, you should at least earn the title of "man" or "woman".

Notice that WE are doing the killing and only being "shot at", tell that to the 268 families and the "kids" in Ward 57 at Walter Reed and places like it all over.

21. He meant
The Iraqi kids. Ya know, Iraqis average under 16 years of age.

Wait a minute....I thought we won?!?!? Mission Accomplished and all that jazz?!?...That's the last thing I heard...I heard we won. You mean to tell me it ain't over? Didn't I see and hear our soldiers say "Once we get to Baghdad, we get to go home". Ya mean they were wrong? Or were they just lied to?

Good lord, how do I change this channel? I'm getting tired of this movie, the "American Bagboys in Baghdad". I wanna see the rerun of "American Truth and Justice for All", ya know, like in that there pledge thing the Sheeple make our under 16 kids say.
