Bush nominates Mississippi judge to federal bench

(07-07) 15:44 PDT WASHINGTON (AP) --

President Bush on Wednesday nominated Keith Starrett, a judge on the 14th Circuit Court District of Mississippi since 1992, to be U.S. district judge for the Southern District of the state.

If confirmed by the Senate, Starrett would replace Charles W. Pickering. Stymied in getting some of his choices past Democratic opponents, Bush bypassed the Senate in January and gave Pickering a temporary appointment on the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans.

Starrett is a native of McComb, Miss. He attended Millsaps College, received a bachelor's degree from Mississippi State University and earned his law degree from the University of Mississippi School of Law.

4. No.
He's been a Circuit Court judge in a small MS town for about 20 years and has not pursued Clinton.

2. What fresh hell is this?
They just keep getting worse. The last confirmation went to a past PRESIDENT of the Arkansas "Right To Life" organization. No activist judge, he. :eyes:

3. What we have here is a failure to communicate.
However, there could be delays that would threaten the Starrett nomination.

Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., has already said he is opposed to Starrett as a successor to Pickering who now sits on the U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals.
