Foreigners Among Those Injured in Greek Quake
ATHENS (Reuters) - A major earthquake off the western Greek island of Lefkada injured more than 20 people including foreign tourists and damaged buildings on Thursday at the height of the area's main tourist season.

The biggest tremor to hit Greece for a decade, it was felt as far as the Greek capital Athens, 200 miles away, and also in southern Italy.

A member of Lefkada's civil protection unit, Nikos Zavitsanos, said 15 people had been treated at the island's hospital while a spokesman for a bigger hospital on the nearby mainland reported receiving seven more casualties from the island.

A spokesman for the Athens Geodynamic Institute, which monitors earthquake activity, said the quake measured 6.4 on the Richter scale and struck at 8:15 a.m. (1:15 a.m. EDT). He said its point of origin was nine miles under the sea about 20 miles west of Lefkada.

1. Wow,
My 16 year old son just returned from Lefkada (and other places in the Ionian), a week ago. He was on a sailing/ outdoors program for a month. He was originally scheduled to be on the 2nd trip, and thus would be there now, but they canxed the 2nd journey because too few kids were enrolled.

2. My brother is in Corfu right now!
That's just north of there, I think. He's on his honeymoon. I hope to hell he and his wife are ok. "Honey, you were wonderful. Did you feel the earth move?"
