Violence shows growing disquiet in Madagascar
Antananarivo - A series of demonstrations and strikes as well as grenade attacks on the Indian Ocean island of Madagascar reflect the mounting disappointment in a government that promised a much-needed economic revival when it came to power two years ago.

The growing unrest takes place against a backdrop of inflation and devaluation.

Weekend festivities marking independence day were marred by three grenade explosions in three different towns.

More than 30 people were killed in the attacks, whose perpetrators have not been identified.
