Libya agrees Lockerbie deal

The 1988 bombing killed 270 people
There are new indications that Libya is about to publicly accept responsibility for the 1988 Lockerbie bombing.

Lawyers representing the families of the 270 people killed said they and Libyan officials have signed an agreement to set up a $2.7bn (£1.7bn) compensation fund.

Once the money is in place later on Thursday, Libya is expected to write to the United Nations saying it takes responsibility for the attack on Pan Am flight 103.

That will help it in its bid to have sanctions lifted and it is thought that Tripoli will pay out the money in stages - as the UN and American measures are lifted.
