TODAY, Aug 13: Over 50 Die in Day of Afghan Violence
F*** you, Mr. Bush.

50 dead in Afghanistan

By AMY WALDMAN
NY Times

ABUL, Afghanistan, Aug. 13 — In the most violent 24-hour period in Afghanistan in nearly a year, 15 people, including 6 children, were killed when a bomb exploded on their bus in southern Afghanistan. More than 40 others were killed today in fighting in the country's east and south.

The bomb exploded in Helmand Province aboard a bus headed for the provincial capital, Lashkar Gah, according to wire reports. It was the deadliest such attack since a bomb exploded in Kabul last September, killing 35 people.

1. Afghanistan? That's *so* 2001
Iraq? That's so 2003. Democracy? That's so 1996. On to Iran/Syria/North
Korea/Armageddon in 2004. Don't look back, greater things to come.

4. Wait a minute! Afghanistan--that's somewhere in the Middle East, right?
Didn't we invade there or something a couple of American Idol seasons ago? I know it was after Gary Condit, but was it before the second season of Survivor? It's so hard to keep this stuff straight.

Oh look! Krill!

5. Yes, Afghanistan was such an Eden before...
American troops went in and mucked up the place. Peaceful, prosperous, highly egalitarian--men and women going to the same schools, studying economics and computer programming. Can't imagine why Bush would send in the troops and turn the whole country into an inferno.

7. Exactly!
Imagine anyone actually believing we were sincere in the committment to send aid and improve the lives of the Afghan people left that we didn't vaporize! If we just let it go long enough, Al Qaeda gains in strength and we can do it all again. Now *that* will be some good TV. sheesh...Let's roll!

10. Yep
The chimp administration thought so highly of it in fact, that our tax money went over there to the tune of millions in order to reward the law and order Taliban for cleaning up all that opium production over there.( Oh, and also to bribe them into letting a big pipeline deal to through.

Thank goodness we changed our minds!!! Now opium prodution is way, way up, and we just forced that pipeline through anyway. There is now an island of BFEE imposed order in parts of Kabul, but the rest of the country is "blessed" with remnants of the Taliban ,a reconstituting and more pissed off Al Queda, and amoral, greedy warlords killing each other and any innocent civilians that get in the way of their designs. Not to mention, more reactionary elements of the Pakistani military and secret service, who are routinely aiding any kind of instability they can find in order to promote their agenda. But at least some of the girls in some parts of the country can wear a dress and go to school.( Although it makes things more diffucult for some, since now they have to avoid being attacked and sexually assaulted, due to the lawlessness raging throughout most of the country.)

Happy Days!!!/not.

11. You might want to signify sarcasm if that's what you're intending, being

8. Someone REALLY screwed up
How the hell did ANY news leak out about Afghanistan? Heads are gonna roll, ROve will make certain of it.

I have, for about 2 months, been trying to ascertain just how many American Soldiers and/or how many civillians have died there since S-11. No answers here at DU. I have scoured the web and can't find anything concrete. Mr Rove doesn't want that number out, and yes, I know, its all so yesterday. Unless, of course, you son or daughter or brother or sister is one of the soldiers of that forgotten and fouled up exercise in futility.

9. Hey - this makes Iraq look almost semi-organised!
So...this is what the Iraqis have got to look forward to, is it?

Glad to see that the US (and allies) are ensuring that everything is sorted out properly before moving on to their next crusade.
