I though Afghanistan was all peaches and cream, a done deal, a wonderland of peace and prosperity, a showcase for the US imposition of Democracy!!

3. It seems that the rebels have gained their bearings there.
There are few US soldiers there. I think that the Karzai regime is extremely weak. It will be overthrown everywhere and the US will only control Kabul and a few cities and bases. So much for their alleged ambitions. Perhaps it really was always about Unocal's pipeline.

4. I think Kabul is the only city currently under US control
That is why Karzai is called the mayor of Kabul. And I think even Kabul can be nip and tuck at times.
