SULAIMANIYAH, Iraq (AFP) - Iraqs US governor Paul Bremer is spending two of his final days on the job with a strong Kurdish fan base in the north of the country, where economic and political life has largely flourished under the US-led occupation.
But many of the locals in Iraqi Kurdistan are fearful of the future once sovereignty is transferred to an Iraqi government on June 30 and do not want the ambassador to leave.
"I am basically going around and trying to say my farewells to a lot of the friends I have made here over the last year," Bremer told AFP during a quick gap in a hectic trip around northern Iraq (news - web sites) and Iraqi Kurdistan that was due to end on Wednesday.
Upon arrival in Sulaimaniyah -- a city near to a so-called green line that separates Kurdistan from the rest of northern Iraq that is more unstable, Bremer received a musical welcome from a group of local children.
