CNN: Cheney blasts media on al Qaeda-Iraq link
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Vice President Dick Cheney said Thursday the evidence is "overwhelming" that al Qaeda had a relationship with Saddam Hussein's regime in Iraq, and he said media reports suggesting that the the 9/11 commission has reached a contradictory conclusion were "irresponsible."

"There clearly was a relationship. It's been testified to. The evidence is overwhelming," Cheney said in an interview with CNBC's "Capitol Report."

"The press, with all due respect, (is) often times lazy, often times simply reports what somebody else in the press said without doing their homework."

hahah it's funny this administration should even think about "homework". They sure did theirs when they claimed Iraq had WMDs.

These fuckers will stab you ALL in the back and throw you to the wolves at their earliest opportunity. It's time to take off the fucking gloves for real. Game over. You've given them the benefit of the doubt and covered for FAR too long and this is how they're treating you. Cheney's calling you out, take him up on it is my advice. Do exactly what he says you should do. Do your homework now and see where it leads. Do you really think Dick! wants that?

His intentional persistence in manipulation through fabrication is just plain evil conduct!!! This administration's actions blow me away!!!

The level of corruption is beyond anything I could have ever imagined witnessing. They have betrayed the American people and American values and the American form of government!!! In my view, they are total utter traitors!!!

The media is largely responsible for pushing these lies supposedly without doing anything more than spouting WH propaganda. Now the regime is desperately ranting and lying blatantly daily and are not used to being called on it. I can't imagine President Kerry being allowed one little slip up without being slammed 24/7 by the corporate media machine, take note and observe the contrast in about six months.

Each alone, avoided by all, slumped over the bar in a seedy drinking hole, stinking drunk, mumbling over and over: "There WERE WMDs, I tell ya. He WAS doin bizness with Osama, by God. Just you wait. The truth'll come out. Then they'll be sorry. They'll all be on their knees begging for my forgiveness. You'll see."

29. You got it.
I heard the female Dem on 9/11 panel on NPR yesterday. She was asked about what Cheney has been saying...her answer was that that was mistaken according to the evidence the panel had. She basically said that's a lie.

So, if the non-partisan panel says Dick lied, where is his credibility ever again?

in a surreal kind of way. :D

Why do they keep on saying that? They KNOW it's been proven wrong and it's been for ages. I just really don't get it.
I watched the news on TV yesterday and when they came to the part about Bush saying these things about Al-Qaeda and Iraq the news announcer was actually grinning before they cut to the news feed. About George Bush. He said something to the extent that President Bush had something remarkably new to say, then smiled this broad grin and they cut to Bush announcing there was a link between al-Qaeda and Iraq.

When news announcers start laughing about the american President while being on air, you know there's just something wrong...

Maybe the commission found Chimpy and Crashcart so incredible that they dismissed their testimony.
Remember, the commission had access to all secret intelligence, including what the two stooges knew, yet they STILL came up with the conclusion that there was no link.

Wouldn't he? This guy is just short of Hitler on the evil scale! If Kerry was smart he would go after this guy big time in campaign adds. Remind people that Cheney would not allow bush to testify with out him there to control him. Then talk about all the evil things he has done. I think if people found out what this guy is like and how he is running the country, Kerry would be in in a cake walk.

If there's "overwhelming" evidence that al Qaida had a relationship with Saddam, where is it? With the WMDs?

34. What he said
On NPR yesterday 911 Commission member Jamie Gorelick said that they sent the staff report about alleged Iraq - Al Queda ties to the White House weeks ago. She pointed out that if the White House disputed any of its conclusions they had plenty of time to provide facts to support their position. The White House had nothing to offer until the report came out Wednesday.

Bush and especially Cheney have painted themselves into a corner. If the evidence for an Iraq - Al Queda connection is so "overwhelming" then why wasn't it given to the 911 Commission? I hope Kerry bashes the hell out of Bush and Cheny for withholding evidence from the 911 Commission.

Dicky boy is the one who needs to do his homework. Yes there clearly were contacts based on opposition to the United States but those contacts did not materialize into a relationship because there was too much mutual distrust and conflict between the goals/ideology of Al Qaeda and Hussein's secular regime.

33. Newsday opinion: Cheney misleads when he suggests Iraq is linked to al-Qai
http://www.newsday.com/news/opinion/ny-vpter183855209jun18,0,5995941.story?coll=ny-editorials-headlines

A key finding of the commission investigating the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks puts the final nail in the coffin of the already widely discredited notion once used by the Bush administration to justify the Iraq war - the purported link between Saddam Hussein and the attacks.

That connection has been definitively shown to be false. But the commission may have muddied the waters by reporting a pattern of meetings between al-Qaida and Iraqi figures starting in 1994. This must be put into some perspective.

In its most recent interim staff report, the panel found no evidence that Hussein and Osama bin Laden were connected or cooperated in any way in the planning or execution of the 9/11 attacks. On the contrary, the commission found that Hussein had flatly rejected efforts by the Sudanese government to put him in touch with bin Laden and his terror network.

This finding comes even as some key members of the Bush administration continue to argue that "ties" existed between the deposed Iraqi leader and the terror chief. So what's going on here? It depends on how you define "ties."

40. Here's the trick Cheney pulled in the interview:
When Gloria Borger asked him about the relationship between AQ and Saddam, he said (paraphrasing here) there wasn't enough time on the show to go into the details. Gloria said that there was enough time, but he ignored her. Cheney pulled out some papers, insinuating that in the papers was a lot of proof of the relationship between AQ and Saddam. He then mentioned the Sudan meeting and the (uncorroborated) Czech meeting and some other worthless stuff. I think Cheney mentioned the alleged Czech meeting about SIX times during the interview.

At one point, Gloria Borger was staring, stunned, with her mouth open at the audacity of Cheney in continuing to repeat his parsed deception. The whole interview was bizarre.

Statement by President George W. Bush
"The regime . . . has aided, trained and harbored terrorists, including operatives of al Qaeda. The danger is clear: using chemical, biological or, one day, nuclear weapons, obtained with the help of Iraq, the terrorists could fulfill their stated ambitions and kill thousands or hundreds of thousands of innocent people in our country, or any other."
