Bush Backs Rumsfeld in Hiding of Iraq Prisoner
Bush Backs Rumsfeld in Hiding of Iraq Prisoner
By Charles Aldinger

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush voiced support for Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld on Thursday after the Pentagon said Rumsfeld ordered the detention of a terrorist suspect in Iraq who was held for more than seven months without notifying the Red Cross.

"I'm never disappointed in my secretary of defense. He's doing a fabulous job and America's lucky to have him in the position he's in," Bush told reporters at the White House when asked if he was disappointed at Rumsfeld's move.

"The secretary and I discussed that for the first time this morning," added Bush, sitting next to Rumsfeld. He noted that the secretary had called a news conference later in the day and would address the issue.

Bush has stood firmly by Rumsfeld amid continuing calls for his resignation from some Democrats in Congress and other critics, who say the U.S. invasion of Iraq was not justified and that the Pentagon was ill-prepared to deal with the violence that has continued in that country.

13. JAIL the war criminals!
There are laws to deal with these people. They have clearly gone over the edge of law. Patriotic and competent judges must uphold their Constitutional duties and take action---someone in the position to do so must take the appropriate, Constitutionally-mandated, actions.

2. BANG, Dumbass* is now complicit in a war crime!
He's as culpable as Rumsfield in the crime now.

5. The US claims it prosecutes its own war criminals.
That it doesn't need international justice because its own justice is sufficient.

Anyone seriously believe that now?

And for that matter, now that it's clear the US considers war crimes legal under US law, doesn't that automatically make this International Criminal Court territory?

7. it would be only fitting if the bloggers would
tie "delusional megalomaniac" to the *Co whitehouse page.

This thing needs more than a psychiatric couch, he needs padded walls.

9. I think this hidden prisoner thing is a red herring
the biggest danger to Bush isn't a legal problem, he's never going to be tried for any of this.

His biggest threat is political, and the photos of prisoners being tortured and murdered are way more damaging than a prisoner being hidden. Politically, the fact that that is against international law seems like a technicality, while the photos, etc. are viscerally repulsive.

19. What you point out goes to the heart of the corruption in our legal system
The wealthy and powerful can violate the laws with impunity ... especially WASP males. If, however, one is female or black or poor it's sayonara.

The Busholini Regime is violating laws right and left and perpetrating crimes against humanity ... but it's only about whther they're "likeable."

"Survivor Island" really is an apt metaphor. :puke:
We deserve the government we get.

11. I'll say this: Bush is loyal to his henchmen
Cross him, and you find out just how evil and treacherous W. is. But Rumsfeld is willing to stand up and admit publicly to committing a war crime. Bush likes that -- not just the admission, but the crime itself.

16. Yes, "you dance with who brung ya" but
they will also take you down if you don't cut 'em loose when they're a drag on you. Bush's penchant for loyalty will also be his undoing.

15. "The secretary and I discussed that for the first time this morning."
That's a direct quote from the chimp and a plausible deniability/cya statement, if I ever heard one. We can now say, without a doubt, that b*sh was in the loop regarding the decision to hold the suspect incognito.

18. I love the hypocrisy too....
If this was Iraq holding US soldiers as ghosts, Bushco would be screaming bloody fucking murder about the violations of Geneva accords. Isnt it great when you can pick and choose which rules you want to follow?
