No one blamed for 9-11
WASHINGTON -- Draft portions of the Sept. 11 commission's final report offer a stinging rebuke of the FBI and intelligence agencies but refrain from assigning blame to individuals in government to avoid the appearance of partisanship, several commissioners say. The 10-member panel still is wrestling over recommendations to shore up the intelligence gaps and communications breakdowns that allowed the hijackers to succeed, four commissioners told The Associated Press in separate interviews.

"There's broad consensus that major changes are needed. This is not just a question of running faster, jumping higher," said Republican commissioner John Lehman, a former secretary of the Navy. "We need to ensure the fusion and sharing of all intelligence that could have helped us to avoid 9-11."

Among the ideas under consideration is a domestic intelligence agency modeled after Britain's MI5. Democratic commissioner Timothy Roemer said FBI Director Robert Mueller's recent proposal to improve domestic surveillance by creating an intelligence service within the bureau is another option under review by the panel but might not be enough.

"Certainly there's consensus the FBI has not done a good job prior to 9-11, and they have a long way to go," said Roemer, a former Indiana congressman.

2. I'm not surprised.
This Commission was a collosal waste of money and if they think they've helped the 9/11 families to come to terms with things, I reckon they'd better reconsider it and get over themselves. {Snaps fingers}

3. BIG NOTHING
I knew this would happen. We'll have to dig up the truth ourselves IN SPITE OF the commission. It's the Warren Commission all over again.

4. Stupid shitheads... Why did they waste our time?
I KNEW that no REAL investigation would come of that Commission.. because the Republicans own all the marbles in the game. This was a total waste of time.. thank goodness we have Michael Moore to get the truth out.

5. They're not called the 9-11 Whitewash Commission
Edited on Wed Jun-09-04 07:08 PM by DoYouEverWonder
for nothing.

They never even asked W, why did he just sit there reading a book about a goat, when he knew 1000's of Americans were dying at that very moment?

They never even asked Rummie, why he just continued his meeting while he knew 1000's of Americans were dying?

They never even asked Cheney, why he just sat in his office watching CNN and why his wife was allowed to interfere during a national emergency, when he knew 1000's of Americans were dying?

They never even asked General Myers, why he thought his meeting with Senator Cleland was more important that responding to a national emergency, when he knew 1000's of Americans were dying?

There's a lot these commissioners never bothered to ask. It is apparent that they put the interests of Bu$hCo above the interests of the American people, especially the families of the victims of 9-11.

edit: dieing = dying oops

6. Good points
But they might make more of an impact if you spelled "dying" correctly.

Sorry, I'm not trying to be an ass...I'm an editor, that's what I do.

11. The repukes are soooooo guilty on this one. This is classic.
Edited on Wed Jun-09-04 07:39 PM by TankLV
Every time they get caught doing something criminal, they find a way to avoid any repercussions, "lest it appear political".

The repukes - ALL OF THEM - are loyal to their party 1st and to our country LAST!

I would jump for joy to see the day when no-one (well, no NORMAL person) will ever admit to having been a republican - just like a NAZI's. Only the few criminals amongst us would still continue to do that. That is my fervent hope and prayer.

And you just know it's ONLY the repukes who are guilty on this one - they have pushed heaven and earth to find ANYTHING that they could stick to Clinton on this one, and he is found to be as pure as snow.

"Don't want to appear partisan" = "The entire bush* administration, AND NO ONE ELSE, is guilty of LIHOP/MIHOP"
