Bush Late for Vatican Meeting With Pope

8 minutes ago Add White House - AP to My Yahoo!

By SCOTT LINDLAW, Associated Press Writer

ROME - President Bush (news - web sites) arrived 15 minutes late for his meeting with Pope John Paul (news - web sites) II — unusual for a president who makes no secret of his impatience when others keep him waiting.

It was a rare breach of protocol in Vatican (news - web sites) City, too, and raised eyebrows in the papal delegation.

1. Maybe, Junior had to wade through flowers and throngs of well-wishers?
Could this be why he was late?

4. What the heck was he doing?
With all those people he takes with him, and certainly not out touring amoung the protestors, what is the hell was he doing that made him late?

Ohhh, maybe they make him take his shoes off to clear security?

Maybe he was at the back of the line of SS agents going through security?

Maybe he really didnt want to meet with the Pope who has critisized the war, the abuse, and the occupation.....it took Laura 15 minutes to convice him that HE HAD TO GO!

9. Had a sleepless night and was watching CNN Live
Edited on Fri Jun-04-04 04:10 PM by Angel_O_Peace
when the Bush Thug Machine rolled in with its many limos and some huge armored type van that reminded me of "Spies Like Us" and the van Akroyd and Chase used.

Bush just about jumped out of his limo, ignored Pickles, (she had to get out on the other side of the limo...not out on the dignitary carpet side), went on to shake hands with all the dignitaries, still ignoring Pickles (who was wearing a very tasteless and somewhat shapeless black suit outfit, I might add...). Some of the cardinals paid attention to Pickles, but she had to follow on her hubby's shitheels throughout the walk to the Pope's quarters. At one point on that walk, Bush pushed ahead of the people leading him through the building...actually shouldered his way to front and through a door, quite reminiscent of the Stooges.

When he met the Pope, he looked like he was bending over and kissing the Pontiff's ring...at any rate, was quite in the Pope's face upon greeting him. I was looking at all this thinking things such as, "Bush walks through the Vatican and sits next to the Pope with absolutely no idea of the history of the many frescoes, architecture or furnishings in that place." I know, strange thought, but actually the history of all those things relate directly to Western Civilization history and development. I also thought, "Were this JFK and Jackie, he would have waited for her and introduced her and/or had her at his side during the handshaking and the introduction to the Pope." But, as usual, Bush shows he possesses no social graces or respect for others, including his wife.

Anyway...didn't see Bush genuflect, but he was an arrogant a-hole nonetheless.

13. Yes, but did anyone
watch the Pope speak, * sitting next to him, bored to tears and
looking like it. It was one of the most disrespectful displays of
"body english" that I've ever witnessed. Shifting in the chair,
obviously not paying attention, folding and unfolding his arms and
looking around the room but not at the pope. Maybe * thought the
cameras weren't on him. The Pope was speaking very slowing, and
in a an almost chanting voice, but Colin at least looked like he
was paying attention and staying focused on the Pope, * just looked
like he wanted to be anywhere but there... kind of like a kid at
the after dinner table when the grownups are talking but he isn't
excused yet. Very embarrassing to have this numbnut as our
representative around the world... even if his policies weren't so
idiotic and hurtful.

Look at his body language in the pics. He was clearly annoyed at having to show "reverance" to this "old guy..." What a narcissist asshole.

What do you want to bet he even makes his own "old man" (GHWB) kiss his ring and scrape for him? (there's a story out there that Bush SR deferred the "head of the family table" spot for Shrub after the election.

Karmic revenge is gonna be good, Bushie*

14. Late? Not like Bush? BULLSHIT!
Anyone who watches a lot of his speeches and functions can attest that he's late ALL THE TIME! This bit about Bush not ever being late often is just a myth like "Bush is a popular war-time President."

Repeat the lie often enough and it becomes the truth.

There's no doubt he did it on purpose. The White House has protocol people who are supposed to prepare him for these things, and he probably ignored them. A bone to the fundies and a "f.u." to the Pope, who dared to question his war.

30. intentionally being late is passive aggressive - and passive aggressives
are inherently powerless. Truly powerful people are gracious, they have no need to be petty. And I am not talking about the power some people feel money brings them.

Humanism, Morality and Social Justice
a sermon delivered by
Charley Barcelo
on Sunday, April 9, 2000
at Community Unitarian Universalist Church
in Daytona Beach, Florida

(snip) (at the end)
When humankind understands the issues involved in Human conduct; when it sees that true morality is the way of life and that immorality is the way of death to humans and to their communities;-----then there is no reason why humankind, conscious of its responsibilities and great opportunities thereby afforded to them, cannot be touched with reverence and awe. This is much like the Native Americans. There is no reason why morality and Social Justice should not be the object of the emotions that are such a part of religion. It then follows that Morality and Social Justice become a religion in the fundamental sense of the term. Now we can celebrate Morality and Social Justice and give them the glory they deserve.

Let us close with the parable of the cat. It seems there was an old Alley cat sitting on the curb when a young kitten scurried down the alley frantically chasing its tail trying to catch it. The kitten collapsed in exhaustion at the feet of the alley cat.

"What are you doing?" wearily meowed the old cat, whereupon the kitten said "I have just graduated from cat philosophy school and they told me that Morality and Justice were contained in my tail. I figured if I could just catch my tail I would have all the Morality and Justice I need."

"Well" said the old cat "I never went to cat philosophy school but as I have lived a long time, I came to realize that Morality and Justice indeed were in my tail. But I didn't need to catch it because it is so much a part of me that it follows me everywhere I go."
