Senator: Iraq Assumptions ‘Flawed’ - Repuke Sen.
Flawed assumptions by President Bush's advisers about postwar Iraq are contributing to Iraqis' resentment of the U.S. occupation and undermining its legitimacy, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee said Sunday.

Even the war itself has yet to be won, said Sen. Dick Lugar, R-Ind.

“Having said that,” Lugar said, “I reiterate we're there now. Whether they made a good choice or not in terms of tactics is irrelevant.”

Friday was the 100th day since Bush declared an end to major combat. In his radio address Saturday, he said the administration was “keeping our word to the Iraqi people by helping them to make their country an example of democracy and prosperity throughout the region.”

But Lugar and former Democratic Sen. Sam Nunn of Georgia, once chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, looked back at the Iraq war in less rosy terms.

1. well flawed is getting close to LIE...but it's a start ....
So much "non confirmation" and yet there is no sadness that this was unneccessary...that soo many young lives were lost...and for what?

Corporatism....is what drove this war...greed and power. And the "puppet" is getting ready for round two in texas.

is another corrupt war-profiteer.....really "hard-hitting" analysis there Senator :eyes:

Whie the neo-cons play games with the UN, trying to hold on to all the loot and get some free cannon fodder......our troops pay the negotiating "price". Congress is full of cowards, especially the senate.

6. "Whether they made a good choice or not in terms of tactics is irrelevant"
Unbelievable.

It doesn't matter if the President lied about the reasons for going there, and that the tactics used once we got there were ineffective, counter-productive and dependent on private contractors.

Let's forget about all that and just get on with things now.

7. Well, yeah, lies do tend to make the occupied angry.
Lugar: fuck you.

"Flawed assumptions". As if they weren't - and aren't still - lies.

And hey, let's imagine they had been flawed assumptions. Wouldn't that scream "genocide by gross incompotence"?

Yeah, they were "flawed assumptions". And Bush was elected. Give me a break, we're not falling for it.

8. Did anybody ask Lugar about the lies?
What about the aluminum tubes and yellowcake from Niger, Senator? What is your take on that? It is fine for Dick Luger to say, "well some mistakes were made and we have to make the best of it." That might be a reasonable position if all of the "flawed assumptions" were made in good faith. But we know they weren't. A decision to go to war was made in sometime in 2002 and then the intelligence was "cooked" to provide a justification. No other conclusion is warrented by the facts. What should be done about that, Senator? Isn't lying to Congress, the United Nations, and the American people about the justification for war a high crime? Our constitution has a remedy for that, it seems.

9. The Post did a good piece on this over the weekend
Sorry if this is old news, but I just read an interesting article in Sunday's Washington Post about this. Remember those aluminum tubes that the administration claimed Iraq was going to use to make gas centrifuges for producing weapons grade uranium? Well, it turns out that none of our best scientists could envision any way in which those tubes could conceivably be used to make any sort of centrifuge, however, they were a dead on match for the specifications required for an Italian 81mm conventional rocket the plans for which the Iraqis had acquired and were trying to build, right down to the words "81mm rocket" engraved on the sides of the tubes. Evidently the administration knew this all along, but didn't want to trouble the UN, Congress, or the American public with such boring technical details - thoughtful of them, don't you think?

to Ahn-nold and the CA recall election and Kobe Bryant.

Rove with the first stunt of fronting this recall and getting Ahn-nold to run has cleverly backburnered AWOL and companies lies getting us in to this killing situation in Iraq. No one but us is paying attention.

The given link points to an equally interesting story, though:

New Doubts On Iraq Nuke Claims

(CBS/AP) The Bush administration continued to make claims concerning Iraq's alleged pursuit of nuclear weapons even as the evidence behind those charges grew thinner, a newspaper reports.
