Protesters march on Livermore lab to oppose ``bunker busters''
LIVERMORE, Calif. (AP)

Hundreds of people rallied outside the one of the nation's nuclear weapons laboratories Sunday to protest the Bush administration's move to develop new nuclear weapons, including an upgraded ``bunker buster.''

Protesters came from as far as Washington D.C. to march on Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, accusing President Bush's national security policies of threatening the world.

Some held aloft signs that read ``Hiroshima Never Again,'' and ``Abolish Nuclear Weapons Now.''

``When you have an administration openly talking about a possible use of so-called tactical nuclear weapons, we have to be out to talk about stopping it in places like Livermore lab,'' said Gamu Smith, founder of Black Voices For Peace. ---

2. Memories . . .
I remember our silent vigils there, holding candles, standing as close as allowed during Raygun's Star Wars build-ups in the 1980's. It was quite moving; unfortunately it did nothing except lift our own souls. I suppose, on 2nd thought, even that was important for all of us who continued to network on various issues . . .

3. it's very important to maintain vigilance....look at Rocky Flats
Nuclear Weapons Plant (near Denver Colorado)...Patriotic Americans worked for YEARS to shut that place down, with little success...until one day, when ONE old guy who had worked at Rocky Flats for over 25 years, decided to become a whistle-blower....

it was the whistle-blowing that led to the FBI raid on the plant and suddenly, unexpectedly, Rocky Flats was closed down....

I have been honored to meet the Whistle-blower, at a conference in Denver...and have since visited with him several times and spoke at great length about his work...as he told me, the protestors were very instrumental in his decision to whistle-blow...very important...while you think that nothing is changing, actually, things are changing....and all it takes is ONE person with a conscience...and maybe that ONE person will come from within the system....the seeds are already sown...KEEP FIGHTING, don't give up...
