Bush-Bashing 'Brother' Will Accompany Kerry to WWII Memorial Opening
By Jeff Gannon
Talon News
May 27, 2004

WASHINGTON (Talon News) -- Saturday's official opening of the national memorial to World War II veterans will be just another campaign appearance for Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry. The Massachusetts senator issued a press release Wednesday that details his plan to attend the ceremony accompanied by Joseph Lesniewski, one of the original 'Band of Brothers' from the 'Easy Company' of the 101st Airborne Division.

Lesniewski is one of the 18 living paratroopers from original 147 members of Easy Company. He was part of the 506th Regiment immortalized in the Stephen Ambrose novel Band of Brothers. Lesniewski "jumped" into enemy territory on D-Day during the invasion of Normandy, earning numerous medals including the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.

Kerry's press release quotes Lesniewski describing his own generation of soldiers as "more patriotic than anybody ever was."

"I was in combat for 235 days -- you don't have to tell me about patriotism," Lesniewski said. He added, "I believe George Bush is messing things up with this war, the economy, and with America's veterans."

----

I got this via email from a Kerry campaign staffer and do not yet have a link. I will try to find one though.

Here we go:

3. It was sent to me by someone in the Kerry campaign
I think it is a good article, but I had no idea who THEY (Talon) were.

Jeeps

But it is STILL A good article.

If the FREEPERS are publishing this stuff, then we all know Bush is in trouble.

But I will dig deeper on Talon which I've never heard of before.

How about some comment on content?

6. well, I appreciate the info. I said in the original post that I ...
got this via email from someone in the campaign. Maybe this story was planted by the campaign with the reporter. Who knows.

What I do know is that it is a great story (about this veteran from the Band of Brothers battalion) who thinks Bush is an idiot.

I have not seen this story anywhere else and I had no idea it was a right wing news servive . Nevere even heard of it.

The messagew may be spun a little but the fact is this story hurts Bush and helps Kerry way more than it hurts him (if it even hurts at all, which is debatable).

7. Read the first fucking sentence

>>>Saturday's official opening of the national memorial to World War II veterans will be just another campaign appearance for Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry.<<<

My father is a WW II vet and he does not want this memorial to be politicized. I doubt any vet does. Its not the place for it. Get it? Whats the campaign staffers name that sent you this crap?

Don

13. I can't say - but I wll say that he did not ask me to post it anywhere
it was an fyi post just because I guess it was one of the few news outlets that picked it up prominently. He probably got it from google news search or something.

it's is no big deal - I was just forwarding the article for interest here.

I thoiught the Bush-bashing was cool, I did not catch the spin on the first sentence as I focussed in on the Bush-bashing brother.

Lighten up

17. What is your major malfunction this morning?....
Did a bug crawl up your butt and hijack your brain?

My Dad's a WWII vet, too, but in his opinion, the NeoCons have ALREADY tried to make the WWII Memorial a campaign issue. He says they are trying desperately to hijack the values of that distant war and somehow have them applied to what they're doing in the Middle East. He has also stated more than once that what he fought against in WWII in Europe became OUR style of government in December 2000.

On top of that, the WWII vets like my Dad ALREADY know what the NeoCons have done to cut benefits to WWII vets. The promises made back then to those men and women to take care of them for life in exchange for going to war have been cast aside by the NeoCons.

IMHO, it's about time that we remember exactly why those men fought in WWII, and how DIFFERENT America was back then when the words "freedom" and "liberty" actually meant something.

One more thing...despite the obvious tone of the article originally linked in the opening post, the REAL kernel of information was there for all to see...Kerry's going to the official opening of the WWII Memorial and he will be accompanied by one of the original "Band of Brothers". That's a powerful bit of imagery, IMHO. That WILL register on the freepers that are becoming rapidly more undecided about Boy George. I learned a long time ago that even sources with an opposing political view can still provide useful information.

21. here's the WH spin that "politicizes" this event
(tries to tie it to the "war on terra"

White House spokesman Scott McClellan said Wednesday that large events such as this weekend's World War II Memorial dedication in Washington "certainly present opportunities for terrorists to carry out their attacks."

Edited on Sat May-29-04 07:15 AM by Rebellious Republica
the Talon home page. I scanned thru it and could not find the article, do you have a better link? As far as not knowing that Talon was a freeper site, all you have to do is look at the banner on the top of the home page, that should be a clue......

At least Kerry is a real Vet, unlike the current POTUS who is an AWOL asshole, whose done everything he can to destroy our military and our country.

5. I think the point here is that real heroes
combat veterans, know what a screw up Shrub is, and aren't afraid to tell it like it is.

I didn't know that talonnews was a freeper site, either. I echo your thoughts that if they are posting things like this, Shrub is in deep doo doo.

I was not trying to start trouble. I just thought it was a good story and I think my contact in the campaign thought that at least somebody printed the story and so he sent it to me! Ohh well

I knew it was a freeper site by accident. I was googling something and ended up there, that is how I found out. The original press release is a great story isn't it? :)

12. It is a great story nevertheless and that is why I posted it
sorry all that the writer is a dick. I really had no idea until I was told. I got the link from google---so I did not even go to the site before I posted the link. I was rushing so as not to "violate" the link requirement rules.

Not intentional at all.

15. how is this a great story?
Edited on Sat May-29-04 08:24 AM by thebigidea
the opening line should tell you everything: "Saturday's official opening of the national memorial to World War II veterans will be just another campaign appearance for Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry."

That's JOURNALISM? That's supposed to be NEWS?

Will they open their article about Bush's WWII memorial visit with a similar line?

16. The story is great. Not the article
sorry if I did not make that clear.

I do happen to think that despite the first line the rest of the article is BAD for Bush and THAT is good, though.

Jeez - everyone is so touchy...

20. seventhson, you'd understand the touchiness if...
... you watched the White House press briefings and the idiotic questions proffered forth by the idiot from Talon on a daily basis over the past few years.

19. Who gives a damn how the Talon opens their story about Junior?....
The fact remains for all to see that the Talon actually told their freeper readership that not only was Kerry going to the opening of the WWII Memorial, he was also going to be accompanied by one of the real heroes of WWII, an original member of the "Band of Brothers". That is VERY powerful imagery IMHO, and those freepers starting to question the FratBoy Fuhrer will have even more to think about.

18. that "Kerry staffer" should have sent you the Kerry press release
instead of the preemptive RW spin. Oh, well. Typical Skull and Bones incompetence I guess.

Maybe Kerry is too busy sleeping with interns to properly screen his staff.

22. Your post actually contains quite a bit of RW spin...
...and the usual unfounded allegations/outright lies similar to those generated against Clinton by the Scaife-funded Arkansas Project.

You should feel real proud of yourself this morning.
