Israel leaves Rafah?
Israel leaves Rafah?

Tuesday 25 May 2004, 2:52 Makka Time, 23:52 GMT

Uncertainty prevails over Israel's much-publicised end to ongoing occupation force operations in Rafah.

While Israeli sources quoted a senior security source as saying the Israeli army halted demolitions and was pulling out on Monday, an Israeli commander in Gaza said military operations are still running.

"I don't know if I can say Operation Rainbow is over. We are taking a deep breath and this goes on," a senior military official added.

But the army did lift a blockade that had cut Rafah off from the rest of the Gaza Strip for nearly a week, saying it was easing conditions for the beleaguered population.

Wary residents venturing out in Rafah's Tal al-Sultan and Brazil districts begged for water as they confronted demolished homes, flattened greenhouses and torn-up streets flowing with raw sewage after Israeli tanks rumbled out....>>

They even wrecked the zoo, & killed many of the animals.

3. Israel ain't going nowhere
They will be back another day. Sharon has no intention of a real pull-out from Gaza. This is all show. Hopefully, the Israeli peace movement will grow stronger again and get him out of office. But ultimately Americans must demand a change in US policy that ceases to license every extremist Zionist offense against the Palestinians.

6. Most Americans do not have a clue
because the American press does not report the entire story.

Unless you are a news junkie with access to the internet, you do not get the truth.

4. It sickens me
that ANYONE tries to justify actions such as these. It is inhuman, nothing less than that. When oh when are the good people of Israel going to awaken and throw their government out?

I sympathize with those Israelis who are as sickened by this as we are. Their plight is similar to our own, held hostage to the immoral and vile acts of a government they are largely powerless to stop.

5. Yes, there are many good Israelis
I met Jeff Halper in late 2002. He gets right out there and places himself between the Israeli soldiers and the Palestinians they are attacking. He has written brilliantly about how the so-called "generous offer" from Barak to Arafat under Clinton was not a true peace proposal but just another tricky plan for subjugation of the Palestinians. It is not only Bush and the Repubs and Neocons who have allowed the extremist Zionists in Israel to get away with all this wickedness.
