BBC Appoints a New Director, Seeking to Overcome Scandal of Unfounded Iraq
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/05/24/business/media/24bbc.html

Seeking to put the humiliations of the last year behind it, the British Broadcasting Corporation announced on Friday that it had appointed Mark Thompson, the chief executive of Channel 4, a rival commercial television station, to the job of BBC director general.

Mr. Thompson succeeds Greg Dyke, who resigned in January in the aftermath of a critical report on the BBC's handling of the death of David Kelly, a government weapons expert. The report, prepared by a former judge, Lord Hutton, found that a BBC radio broadcast in 2003 asserting that the government had deliberately exaggerated the case for war against Iraq was unfounded.

Nice spin.
