GOP Senator Rips Bush on Iraq, Terrorism
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=512&ncid=703&e=3&u=/ap/20040522/ap_on_go_co/iraq_lugar

MEDFORD, Mass. - Republican Sen. Richard G. Lugar on Saturday said the United States isn't doing enough to stave off terrorism and chided President Bush (news - web sites) for failing to offer solid plans for Iraq (news - web sites)'s future.

Lugar, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said "repairing and building alliances" is key to avoiding terrorism.

He also said it's still unclear how much control the Iraqi people will have over their nation's security when power is transferred to them June 30.

"I am very hopeful that the president and his administration will articulate precisely what is going to happen as much as they can, day by day, as opposed to a generalization," the Indiana senator said during an appearance at the Fletcher School at Tufts University.

2. Lugar is heads above the average Republican senator
He's a really bright guy who unfortunately is really conservative. However, he's a real Republican, not a neo-con 'thuglican.

His claim to fame, in my mind, is that when he was mayor of Indianapolis in the late '60's, he was known as "Richard Nixon's favorite mayor" because he was both smart and clean as a whistle.

6. Bush is sometimes critical verbally
but he rarely holds that position on the vote - he is reliably a bushteam member when it comes to actual votes.

Lugar is sometimes critical of bush - but he always votes with him in the end.

*must have been the effect of having to listen to screaming cicadas for 24 + hours ;-) *

Why does Lugar hate freedom? How long will the people of Indiana -- excuse me, the PEOPLE's REPUBLIC of Indiana -- tolerate this blatant supporter of Osama's?

(What the GOP would say if Lugar was a Democrat).
