Previously secret sworn statements by detainees at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq describe in raw detail abuse that goes well beyond what has been made public, adding allegations of prisoners being ridden like animals, sexually fondled by female soldiers and forced to retrieve their food from toilets.

4. Military service as pornographic field trip

It's growing increasingly hard for the full-time mythologists of the American media to hide the fact that for men and women in Abu Ghraib, pornography defined the experience.

The level of sexual violence is astonishing, and that is probably the chief reason why the military and lawmakers are at pains to keep thousands of images secret.
