US jobs moving abroad faster
OFFSHORING: A report suggests that 830,000 US jobs will have moved abroad by the end of next year, but it's still not clear if this is really a bad thing for the economy

AFP , WASHINGTON
Wednesday, May 19, 2004,Page 12

The movement of US service jobs offshore to low-cost countries is growing faster than expected, with the number likely to hit 830,000 by the end of next year, a research firm said Monday.

The report by Forrester Research updated an earlier projection of 588,000 jobs -- a 40 percent jump from the prior forecast.

"Interest and use of offshoring continues to rise, particularly on the IT side," said Forrester analyst John McCarthy.

The Forrester data, widely cited in the debate over outsourcing, suggested a slight increase in the projected number of US service jobs moving offshore by 2015, to 3.4 million from 3.3 million.

I know I know, 'all data shows the recovery is next quarter.' As I've listened to every GOP Whore journalist say since 2001 and every month at that.

2. We're on the cusp of the recovery
Liars-- thieves. But you gotta admit their reasoning about maximizing profits for the shareholders is impeccable if you're into exploitation..

Why pay someone $7.00 per hour to sew shirts for WalMart, when 13 year old female children in Bangladesh will do the same job for 13 cents an hour ?

4. So the truth is we still believe in slavery in an indirect way,
as long as profit is the name of the game.

8. it's even cheaper than slavery-
when you consider that if they had to house, clothe, feed and provide medical care for slaves in the U.S., third world wages are even cheaper.

6. Good point saigon68!
They maximize profits but prices consumers pay don't fall in proportion to the cheaper labor costs.

3. ask all the people in the depressed communities with no jobs
if this is a bad idea...

Has Flint Michigan really recovered? Hell their are neighborhoods in Pittsburgh that would welcome some steady employment as well...

5. The flow of whitecollar jobs leaving this country will soon resemble...
Niagra Falls, in it's heyday. All those glass towers in the cities will empty, as corporations outsource all the 'information age' jobs they once housed. Even high-level decision-makers can be replaced for pennies on the dollar and an internet connection.

If China and India together have ten times our population, then they also have ten times the GENIUS level people we have...and I would postulate, coming from 3rd World backgrounds, these people might just be a lot more motivated...one might even say, driven. And that is JUST China and India.

Soon, the business districts of most major American cities will approximate the rusting, gutted steel-producing districts of Weirton, Wheeling and Pittsburg.

Of course there is a bright spot for the economy in all this: there will be plenty of MBA's to flesh out all those hard to fill migrant field-hand slots in the coming system of corporate feudalism...you know, cutrate contract labor.

Everybody thinks their ass is gold...that it can't happen to them. Well let me tell you what: if you work at a desk with an internet connection, you had better be related to 'your' owner, or it's not a question of IF, only of WHEN you are going to be replaced.
