Baghdad newspaper calls on Rumsfeld to resign over Abu Ghraib
BAGHDAD (AP) - A major Iraqi newspaper has urged U.S. Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld to resign, joining the international outcry for him to step down over the Abu Ghraib prisoner abuse scandal.

The newspaper Azzaman, in its front-page editorial Saturday, also cited a meeting between Rumsfeld and Saddam Hussein in the 1980s, when Rumsfeld served under President Ronald Reagan.

"Rumsfeld, known for his past links with Saddam, should have announced his resignation in Baghdad to satisfy the poor Iraqi people," the newspaper said.

Rumsfeld paid a one-day visit to Iraq on Thursday to look into the prison scandal and boost the morale of U.S. troops. "He should have gone to Abu Ghraib prison to look for those deliberately hidden . . . or to announce the release of all detained in Abu Ghraib and then go to pray to get forgiveness for the abuses he inflicted on Iraqi people," the newspaper said.

1. So the New York Times
and the major American media are actually ahead of their Iraqi counterparts on this? Well, we live in interesting times.

2. Iraqi newspaper thinks the US cares about how they feel. Deluded fools!
Or maybe the occupiers do care. If so, the paper will be closed and their offices padlocked so they learn not to speak without permission.

3. They're going to have to get in line with the US gov't -approved position
or they could be visited by any number of calamities!

Maybe they need to be reminded of how Bush has FREED them, and brought them freedom of speech, if they will accept it gracefully, meaning not one peep of criticism, or they'll be called "terrorists," or "insurgents."
