Bush(*), Cheney Open 2003 Disclosure Forms
Bush, Cheney Open 2003 Disclosure Forms

May 14, 10:16 PM (ET)

By PETE YOST

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney on Friday released their financial disclosure forms for 2003, offering up two illustrations of what the portfolios of the well-to-do look like.

For the president, that means some real estate along with rock-solid government Treasury notes, and for the vice president, some tax-exempt bond funds.

...

Cheney has $15 million to $75 million salted away in tax-exempt bond funds, and $2 million to $10 million in stocks that a global investment management firm is handling for him.

...

The White House has pointed out that they joined 109 million other Americans also benefiting from the tax cuts. In Bush's case, he and his wife paid $41,000 less last year than the previous year. In Cheney's case, the reduction was $88,000.

A Friday sneak release that I've heard nothing about. I'll see if I can find the actual reports online somewhere (where?).

2. tried both
Open Secrets has previous years. It goes to the US Office of Government Ethics, which doesn't seem to list them (or much of anything useful) on their site.

The law says they should be immediately availble to the public. Nothing on Whitehouse.gov either, that I can find, although can't find what happened to the press release section--seems like they did one after all the reporters went home last night.

Be nice to find and publicize sooner than later, considering all the Bashing Teresa K got last week for hers.

edit to add: This site has 2002 docs on-line for each, not 2003 yet.
While you're there, check out Cheney's Hell-a-burnin bennies.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President George W. Bush was showered with more than $22,000 (12,500 pounds) in gifts from admirers last year, including a $2,000 barbecue from White House staff, the White House says.

Bush, who trails Democratic challenger John Kerry by 46 percent to 51 percent in the latest Time/CNN poll, also received a dock with attached walkway valued at $7,466 from a pair of Springfield, Missouri businessmen.

...

In addition, First Lady Laura Bush received $12,000 last year from an annuity created by Henry Freeman, Jr., who died in 1917. Freeman's will provided each First Lady $12,000 annually once certain named relatives had died.

...

The vice president received $6,345 in gifts, including a set of designer earrings and necklace valued at $1,475.

7. "a $2,000 barbecue"??
I'd bet there're at least 30% of Americans who don't even have a $2,000 kitchen ... not to mention those who don't even have a home.

9. Pierced foreskin, you may want to hold off on the earring viewing
Only Chenneys right ear is pierced, he needs to put the other one elsewhere. As far as the necklace, I don't know. LOL

10. Strange how money always goes to money
People give to those who already have more than they know what to do with. I once knew someone who operated on that theory and lied about his origins, saying that he was the heir to a fortune. People were impressed and he got invited places and rich people would pick up his checks.
