INGRAM WRIGGLES OUT OF TORTURE APOLOGY

SQUIRMING Defence Minister Adam Ingram last night refused to apologise for misleading MPs over Iraq torture reports.

To shouts of disgrace in the Commons, the Armed Forces Minister said he had not lied by claiming he had never received "adverse reports" about prisoner abuse from human rights groups.

The Government have since been forced to admit they had received letters and documents from both the International Red Cross and Amnesty International.

But in a bizarre defence, Mr Ingram said these were not proper reports because of the way they were put together.
