Bin Laden Offers Gold for Killing Bremer, Annan

13 minutes ago Add Top Stories - Reuters to My Yahoo!

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (Reuters) - A purported statement by al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden (news - web sites) offered rewards in gold for killing U.S Iraq (news - web sites) administrator Paul Bremer or U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan (news - web sites), an Islamist Web site said Thursday.

The statement posted on the Web site said the 22 pounds of gold reward would also be given to anyone killing other officials including Bremer's deputy or U.N. envoy to Iraq Lakhdar Brahimi.

"We in al Qaeda organization are committed to a prize of 10,000 grams of gold to whoever kills Bremer, his deputy, the commander of American forces or his deputy in Iraq," the statement said.

It said it would give the same reward for killing Annan and Brahimi.

5. He is an Islamic terrorist that holds radical religious ambitions.
Did you really think he could be reasonable if you only appeased him?

21. Doesn't make sense.
Obviously he is a fundamentalist whackjob. Khofi Annan and the UN as a body has been critical of the US under Bush. Targeting Annan makes no sense. Why not Blair, for example? Bremer and Annan???? Either this is poorly thought out bs "leaked" to the press by US intelligence agencies, or OBL is just that whacked. I'm not sure which it is.

23. I think a lot of the world sees the UN as a puppet of the permanent five
SC members

Face it, if one of those five doesn't want something to happen, it doesn't happen.

22. Islamic terrorist and ex-friend to the US
OBL was a freedom fighter hero funded and trained by the CIA when he was kicking 'Commie' ass in Afghanistan......Until he was no longer needed by the US

Saddam was loved by and armed with WMDs BY America when he was kicking Iranian ass.....a mere puppet advancing american interference

How many Osamas and Saddams are the republicans manipulating and double crossing right now in the countries where they are meddling? When America pulls out of Iraq, how many Islamic Terrorists will it have created, all hell bent on revenge.

Unfortunately, Terrorism is an idea, you don't kill an idea, you create a martyr and more potential terrorists.

If japan had sucessfully invaded the american homeland during WWII and became an occupying force (unlikely I know but use your imagination), they slaughter your family, put you on a leash like a dog. Now you fight against them for vengeance and to drive them from the land you love. Does that make you a 'terrorist'??

Thought not

25. excellent and welcome to DU
:hi: For more damning evidence about our Reagan-Bush-Bush foreign policy and the resultant blowback, check out House of Bush, House of Saud by Craig Unger. Powerful stuff, makes your blood boil.

You are oh so right about terrorism, and Bush et al have created a hydra-headed terrorist spawning monster in Iraq. History doesn't repeat itself ... stupid (greedy, arrogant, power hungry) people repeat history.

Edited on Thu May-06-04 05:13 PM by Just Me
I just acknowledged the skill in grabbing such "weird" articles. You don't think this article is "weird"?

Just my opinion,...that, many of the articles posted are "weird" and posting my acknowledgement of that poster's capacity to find them.

Is there something wrong with that?

Why are you being so defensive?
