Captured Canadian in Iraq Released

OTTAWA -- Iraqi kidnappers have released Canadian Naji al-Kuwaiti and he will soon be home, federal officials said yesterday as they struggled to get the word out that Canada is not part of the U.S.-led occupation force.
...
Officials say they are uncertain whether Canadians in Iraq are being targeted because they are foreigners or because hostile groups there mistakenly believe Canada is part of the U.S.-led military coalition that occupies the country.

A U.S. military website for Baghdad command lists Canada as one of 35 countries contributing to "stability operations" in Iraq.
"This is a glaring error" and one the government hopes the U.S. military will correct, said Liberal MP Dan McTeague, a parliamentary secretary who has been Ottawa's point man on cases of Canadians jailed or kidnapped abroad.

"We are not involved with coalition forces in Iraq and I would hate to think this would lead to some misapprehension," Mr. McTeague said in an interview. "This doesn't make our efforts any easier."

The website, which was updated yesterday to remove Spain from the list of coalition members after the pullout of Spanish troops, shows the Canadian flag arrayed with those of Britain, Australia, Moldova and other coalition members.

1. I just checked the "Combined Joint Task Force 7" site and they still have
Canada's flag there as if we were one of the coalition...Why are they doing that?...No wonder Canadians are being targeted over there too.

2. I am kicking this because I'm angry the USA military website is listing
Canada as one of the "coalition"....We are definitely NOT...We are, and have been from the beginning involved in Afghanistan with troops, but NOT IRAQ!....What's the game here?
