Hitting the highway to find new Democratic votes
Seattle musician's road trips aim to mobilize youths

SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER REPORTER

Local musician Rich Davidson was angry about the Bush administration and the war in Iraq and was agonizing over the fact that just a few hundred votes in the 2000 election could have changed the course of the nation, when the idea hit:

Road trip.

Davidson, 32, plans to rent a caravan of recreational vehicles to travel to Florida and other swing states this summer in hopes of mobilizing young voters in the places where the results could dictate whether President Bush or Sen. John Kerry will win the presidential election.

The idea blossomed into Driving Votes, an organization bent on bolstering voter-registration campaigns in swing states by organizing loose-knit, political road trips.
