Conservatives can take Quebec seats, Harper says - Globe and Mail
http://www.globeandmail.ca/servlet/story/RTGAM.20040430.wharper0430/BNStory/National/

Conservatives can win a majority of seats in Quebec, party leader Stephen Harper said Friday as he dismissed recent polls that placed his party a distant third in the province.

Mr. Harper said the Conservatives can win up to 45 of Quebec's 75 seats with promises to respect provincial rights and to make French in Canada a “national priority.”

“To form a strong and ongoing national government, we need to win seats in Quebec,” Mr. Harper said.

-I'll comment on this when I stop laughing.

The Bloc Québécois vows to take a majority of seats in Alberta...

2. The Bloc Quebec was a nationalist Pro-Quebec party. Quebec is...
NOT a right wing province. It's on the East Coast!

The Liberals will win some seats there. Why would Quebec vote for the Party of Anglo-Bigots??? Oh, that's right, they wouldn't!

4. Harper's obliged to say this crap to maintain the pretense
of being a National party. His party are starting to bomb, and he knows it.

9. Really?
What are the electoral manifestations of the sponsorship scandal? I don't follow Canadian politics at all closely, but I'd imagine that M. Guité's problems would hurt the Liberals, especially in Quebec. If not, why not?

10. Today's Ipsos Reid poll has the CPC down 5%, Liberals up 5%. NDP on 18%
The sponsorship scandal may have just blown over. However, 59% of Canadians say that the Liberals do not deserve another mandate, so who knows? The CPC is at 23% in the polls. They're not getting traction. If this continues, the NDP will overtake them (fingers crossed).

5. I'm beginning (ok, continuing) to question Harper's sanity
Quebec is possibly the most (lowercase) liberal province. They're the ones who started the gay marriage thing in Canada. The Bloc is liberal socially and fiscally kind of middle of the road. Quebec has done very well with Liberals in power and only flirt with the Bloc to keep the Liberal bribes coming.

They would get nothing from the Conservatives (or whatever they're called this week).

11. Harper's hair
sort of a cross between a classic little boy haircut, and Mike Harris hair. Scary!
Boy, the CAonservatives are imploding faster than I thought they would.
With claims like 45 seats in Quebec, he's not only dangerous...he's crazy!
They have less than 10 nominated candidates in Quebec.

16. oh ya, the eyes
and it looks like he's wearing eye-liner now, to make them look larger.
Also, in his TV ad, they dressed him in a Mike Harris blue shirt.
