More Agents Track Castro Than Bin Laden
WASHINGTON - The Treasury Department (news - web sites) agency entrusted with blocking the financial resources of terrorists told Congress that at the end of last year it had just four full-time employees dedicated to investigating Osama bin Laden (news - web sites)'s and Saddam Hussein (news - web sites)'s wealth while nearly two dozen were working on Cuban embargo violations.

In addition, the Office of Foreign Assets Control said that between 1990 and 2003 it opened just 93 enforcement investigations related to terrorism and collected just $9,425 in fines for terrorism financing violations since 1994.

In contrast, OFAC opened 10,683 enforcement investigations since 1990 for possible violations of the long-standing economic embargo against Fidel Castro (news - web sites)'s regime, and collected more than $8 million in fines since 1994, mostly from people who sent money to, did business with or traveled to Cuba without permission.

In its letter late last year to the Senate committee, OFAC disclosed it had two full-time employees investigating bin Laden's wealth and two others "dedicated to identifying individuals and entities" that may hold Saddam's leftover money.

1. Well of course!
They have to keep Castro at bay to placate the Cuban vote in Miami. They have to have that vote to keep control of Florida. They have to control Florida so they can tamper with the Presidential elections. And they have to stay in power so they can continue to run roughshod over the rest of the world. Castro is probably strategically way more important to the Bush family than bin Laden.

4. THAT IS ABSOLUTELY INSANE
My faith in not only this administration, but all of government is really starting to wane. It really is so taxing to read all of the bullshit all of the time. How can this even be?

5. Dog, this ticks me off!@!

The recent hypocritical opening up relations with Libya already had me p-o'd regarding the continued oppression of the Cuban people (through our embargo) -- on top of the ever-expanding relationship with China -- and now this.

Let's get one thing straight... NOTHING changed after 9/11. The opportunity for change was great, yes; instead, though, that tragedy was used to reemphasize and expand previously entrenched policies.

It's time for us to open up economic and diplomatic relations with Cuba.

6. Nice.
It's amazing to me that none of this stuff puts the American people um in arms. I mean, Bush is pretty unpopular, but holy cow, with all of these scandals, he should be 25% behind in the polls.

8. That is why Kerry should be even more vigil
He needs to pound these things home day after day. People have already accepted that this is a negative campaign, so he needs to go all out and attack that bastard shrub.

10. What a bitter, vengeful, greedy and unimaginative mob the Bushies are
Seriously, they're just beyond juvenile. Still fighting to avenge the wrongs of decades ago and to dominate markets that had to gall to break free of the clutches of these guys. Sheesh.

I just remember Carville being interviewed by a reporter in "The War Room": when asked about Bush (Poppy) he just launched into this tirade "when I think of George Bush, I think of an old calendar; George Bush just reeks of the past." (That's a paraphrase, but it should be close...)

The whole family is just viciously settling scores and grinding old foes into the mud to get them to scream "uncle"; it's pathetic if it wasn't so dangerous...

What a pathetic bunch of losers.
